Vagrancy Workshop

Dear JC,

In February 2016 we informed the Melville Community about Operation: Come Together, working towards a long term solution to address the significant number of vagrants in Melville.

At the time the Displaced Persons Unit planned a workshop, to guide us in what is possible and to train the residents on how they can support a DPU / JMDP driven initiative, to make a difference for these people and the neighbourhood, however it never materialised.

We received an invitation from Councillor Amanda Forsythe regarding a Vagrancy Workshop that she arranged for Wednesday, 22 June 2016.

“Dear MRA members,

This is a reminder of the Vagrancy workshop I have arranged for next week Wednesday.

Date: 22 June 2016
Time: 08h30 to 1230
Venue: The Pavilion room, Marks Park Sports Club

The workshop is aimed at councillors, Residents Associations, CPF members, local NGOs working in the field of Displaced People, the JMPD, the SAPS, security companies and any other parties wishing to find solutions to the issue of people living on the streets of Johannesburg. The objective is threefold: to assist those who need our help, to ensure that by-laws are respected and that everyone’s rights are protected.

Given the current lack of resources in the department of Social Development, I have developed a new model with the Displaced People’s Unit involving community participation. This model will be explained during the workshop and community representatives will be given guidance on how to set the model up in their suburbs.

Please feel free to forward this invitation to members of your community that you feel might like to participate. Anyone wishing to attend must please RSVP via email by 12pm on Tuesday 21 June as space is limited.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Best regards,

Amanda
Councillor Amanda Forsythe

Should you be able to attend this workshop please RSVP directly with Ward Councillor.

Thank you.
