Principal's Message

Hello Sea Lions,

Last week McGaugh celebrated their first Sea Lion awards assembly of the school year. Four times a year, students from every classroom are recognized and awarded for exhibiting excellence in several categories. Academic awards include math, writing, and reading. Character education awards include the Heart and Soul and the Seal of Approval. In the area of the arts, awards include art, music, and STEM. Parents are invited to grade-level assemblies where their special students are recognized by their teachers, and administrators, and celebrated by their peers. These awards foster positive character development and promote a growth mindset which brings out the best in everyone. This in turn helps to improve academic achievement.

Additionally, one Sea Lion student is selected every day to receive the “A for a Day” award. McGaugh staff members acknowledge those students who stand out in the areas of academics, arts, athletics, attendance, attitude, and/or activities.
McGaugh’s Sea Lion awards and the “A for a Day” encourage connectivity, inclusivity, and ultimately promotes positive school climate.
For the month of October, the Wellness initiative is focused on “Bullying Prevention.” Since 2006, October has been recognized as the National Bullying Prevention Month. The Wellness Counselors are looking forward to being able to share knowledge on this topic and provide resources for students and staff.  Our goal is for students to be able to understand the effects that bullying has, what bullying is and is not, and ways to be an “Upstander”.  An upstander is someone who recognizes when something is wrong and does something to make it right by focusing on the 3 “R’s” – Recognize, Respond, and Report.
Additionally, October 19th is celebrated nationally as “Unity Day.” This is a signature event of National Bullying Prevention month, in which the key message is centered around kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. We encourage all students and staff to wear orange on 10/19.
Wellness at Home:
Here are two short read alouds you can watch with your child(ren) to further foster “Bullying Prevention”. We encourage you to watch together and have an open discussion about what these stories mean and how they connect with your Sea Lion.

Project SEEK Presents: Where Does the Money Go?-A quick look at Project SEEK Funded Teachers and Programs

Please take a minute to “meet” the amazing Project SEEK funded teachers who make it all possible and learn more about our Art and Technology programs at McGaugh!

Those smiling faces need your help!  Project SEEK is McGaugh's non-profit organization that raises money to fund our art lab, innovation/STEM lab and media center.  We fund three teachers' salaries and all the supplies for these labs to enrich the education of every McGaugh student. Research shows that art, innovation and media education encourage problem solving, creativity, and a growth mindset in all subject areas.

Our Goal this year is $75-$100 per family

(We are tremendously appreciative of any amount of donation…nothing is too small.)

If we raise $10,000 by Monday, 10/31, Mrs. Wood will take 10 pies to the face!

Every child who’s family donates will be entered into a raffle to be one of 10 children who get  to throw a pie in Mrs. Wood’s face!
