Principal's Message

Hello McGaugh Sea Lion families,
This week all schools, in Los Alamitos Unified, will celebrate Peace Week. International Peace Week, September 21st, is a day that was set aside by the United Nations General assembly for everyone around the world to devote to keeping peace, despite any differences they may have, as well as play a part in building a peace culture that will last for generations to come.
The theme of this year’s PEACE Week, at McGaugh, is making connections. Strong connections provide a foundation for student engagement, belonging, and, ultimately, learning. The more enriching the connections students have with the school community, the more likely they are to engage in healthy behaviors, succeed academically, and have more positive attendance. We will be looking at all the ways to reach out and make connections with others in multiple ways throughout the week and the school year. Please see the daily themes and activities scheduled for the week below.

McGaugh’s School Site Council (SSC) would like to congratulate and welcome Mrs. May Samari, Mrs. Claudia Vecchio Wille, and Mrs. Jessie Standlea to the School Site Council for the 2022-2024 school years. I would also like to thank everyone for their participation in this year’s running and voting process. We had a ballot of twelve candidates and an amazing voter turnout. Thank you, thank you, thank you. McGaugh parents’ rock!!!

The PTA Reflections Art Contest Is Happening Now!

Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 nationwide create original works of art in response to a student-selected theme. This 50+ year-old program helps them explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.

The 2022-2023 Reflections theme is Show Your Voice!

Students are challenged to express themselves with submissions in six categories: Literature, Visual Arts, Film Production, Dance Choreography, Music Composition and Photography.  Awards are given by grade level: TK-2nd grade (primary) and separate awards for 3rd-5th grade (intermediate).
There is also a Special Artist Division as an option for students with disabilities who receive services under IDEA or Section 504 so that they have the opportunity and accommodations they may need in order to participate fully in the program.

We encourage Sea Lions to show their creativity! Fill out the submission form
here, print it out and turn it in with your work of art to the McGaugh office by September 30, 2022. Digital submissions can be sent to There are also forms available in the office.

Attention 5th Grade Parents and Students

Our 5th grade contest is here and due soon! We invite all 5th grade students to enter your t-shirt design to be a contender for the winning 5th Grade T-Shirt and Sweatshirts that will be available to purchase later this year. Be creative and have fun!

Please turn in your design by September 19 to your 5th grade teacher or the front office! If you have any questions, please email

McGaugh Silent Auction

We are gearing up to our annual McGaugh Silent Auction and we want to make this the best one yet! We need your help!

Do you have unopened, new toys or gift cards you won't use? Do you know a business owner that has an item or experience to donate? Do you have connections to tickets, events, weekend stays, activities, golf rounds, or lessons? PTA could really use the support to add some awesome items to our silent auction. We are especially in need or larger ticket items.

You can also create a basket or donate items in your family name. Donations can be left in the front office, attention PTA, or contact
Jennifer Katz to arrange pick up.

All proceeds go directly to support McGaugh! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and proceeds go to support programs such as International Culture Club, school fields trips, school assemblies and guest speakers, classroom enhancements, our recent purchase to create a strings music program (1st in the District), upcoming gaga pit, community events like the carnival, and so much more! Your support means so much and every donation makes a difference.
