Principal's Message

Dear McGaugh Families,

This weekend was a weekend like no other at McGaugh. This weekend we celebrated the 40th annual Pageant of the Arts. The production was absolutely magical. This year featured artist Wassily Kandinsky, where students in grades TK-5 played a part in the painting of the backdrop during the 2019-2020 school year. We were not able to showcase the painting that year due to the shut-down, but we were excited to showcase it for the 40th annual Pageant of the Arts. Original founders of the Pageant of the Arts, the mayor of Seal beach, board members, previous McGaugh principals, community members, and families were all in attendance. Mrs. Obert, Pageant director since 2014, and many other current and retired McGaugh teachers put in countless hours of volunteer time for the production. A huge thank you to Project SEEK and the families that donate and volunteer their time to fund the art program at McGaugh, which allows us to offer this amazing opportunity to ONLY our Sea Lions.

FEBRUARY WELLNESS INITIATIVE
For the month of February, the Wellness Initiative is focused on Kindness. Expressed both towards others and to ourselves, kindness is an important aspect of wellness and has been shown to increase self-esteem, empathy, compassion, and improve mood.  People who spread kindness and give of themselves in a balanced way also tend to be healthier and live longer, feel more connected to others, and experience enhanced relationships in general.

The Elementary Wellness Counselors will be going into classrooms providing lessons specific to Kindness and sharing videos and sing-alongs with the classes about how kindness makes the world a better place. Compliment cards will be handed out in our Well Spaces which encourage students to share kindness with their peers, all month.  The book that we will be highlighted with teachers and shared with families is, A Little Spot of Kindness, by Diane Alber, with a read aloud version found here: https://youtu.be/6kTsQKccuyY

SEL PARENT EDUCATION NIGHT

Project SEEK Needs Your Help!

Project SEEK Needs You…Pretty Please consider helping Project SEEK!

In order to fund our Art and STEM classes at McGaugh, we need to raise over $150,000 each year. The Event is our largest fundraiser to help us meet that goal. And we need your help obtaining donated services and goods for our silent and live auctions. If you own a business or know someone that does, or you have connections to tickets, rental properties or special events, please consider asking your friends with businesses or connections to become a sponsor or donate, or donate yourself.

Please contact Robin Dyer, donations@projectseek.org with questions or ideas. You can also click here to get a copy of our donations and sponsorship forms.
