Principal's Message

Good Morning McGaugh Families,

Thank you for the kind words of appreciation; it was such an honor to present McGaugh's Board Report at last week's board meeting. Our Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools, and Cabinet provide such amazing leadership. And the McGaugh community made it easy to curate content for the presentation. Our teachers create nurturing learning environments, encourage our talented students to think critically and express themselves, and our parents are committed to supporting rigorous learning and rich traditions. Congratulations again to Farnaz, for being named McGahugh's Hero of the Heart. It is an honor that's very well deserved.

The end of the year is on the horizon, and the state assessment season is upon us.   Each year students in grades 3, 4, and 5 complete statewide assessments to determine academic progress and achievement. However, due to the pandemic and the varying learning environments for students across California, we will not be administering the traditional CAASPP assessment.

Instead, our teachers will be administering one of our District Benchmark assessments to monitor student progress in language arts and mathematics.  This assessment will take the place of the CAASPP assessment. These computer-based tests provide valuable data for staff.  Through data analysis, teachers will determine areas of strength and areas that need improvement.  This information drives our instruction for the upcoming school year.  These assessments also allow our students to demonstrate all they've learned and have pride in all they have achieved this year!

Tests will be administered sometime between May 11, 2021- May 20, 2021, and should only take two days!

As always, with any testing, please motivate your child to do his/her best work. Children who are well-rested, nourished, and encouraged from home, tend to score better than those that do not have that support. We so appreciate your support in making sure that your child is present on all of the days we are administering the assessment.

Here are a few things to keep in mind this week:

On the Horizon

  • Tuesday (5/4) | Parent Education Night - Part 2
  • Monday - Friday (5/17 - 5/21) | OSS Alternative Activities

That's all for now.
