Principal's Message

Good morning McGaugh Families,
October is Carnival Month! The excitement for the McGaugh Carnival is growing, and it's palpable.  And while there are thoughts about the Carnival being a pretty big event for most schools, I'm learning that the family involvement and the connectedness of this community make the Carnival here at McGaugh pretty unique.
Thank you to our many parents who have already signed up to volunteer and support the Carnival. If you're interested in lending a "volunteering" hand, many of our teachers have sign-up sheets on the door.  You can also reach out to McGuagh's PTA to sign up.
Lastly, across our district, there's a shortage of substitute teachers and student supervision assistants.  Substitute teachers are a vital part of the social and academic success for McGaugh’s students. Substitute teachers support a sense of continuity for students when their teacher can't be there. Additionally, the strength and the fidelity of all professional development rely directly on the support of substitute teachers.  Not to mention, the opportunity to work at your child's school is quite a remarkable experience and one your child is not likely to forget, trust me I know 😁!  If you would like to learn more about the opportunity to work as a substitute teacher or to become a student supervision assistant (lunch or recess supervision), please click the links below.

OUR NEXT PTA MEETING is Thursday, 10/7!

McGaugh PTA meetings are normally held on the first Thursday of every month in the McGaugh auditorium at 8:15am after drop-off. Join us this week as we go over the events in October including the Carnival and Silent Auction, as well as Red Ribbon Day. At PTA meetings, you'll learn about the important activities and programs happening at McGaugh and in the Seal Beach community. That includes updates from your all-volunteer PTA Executive Board and McGaugh Principal Dr. Gates.  It's also your chance to ask questions, voice concerns and be a part of the conversation.  See you there!

Help! Your donations are needed for our Silent Auction

The annual McGaugh Silent Auction is quickly approaching and we need donations!

Have season tickets to a sporting event or theatre? Vacation Home? Business connection that wants to help out a 501(c)(3) non-profit? Unused gift cards from places you don’t really go to? We will take them and make money to give back to our school and kids! Please ask your favorite restaurants while there or pass along any info you have that many we willing to donate to.
Click here for the donation form, stop by the front office or contact Steve Miller anytime.

You can also make a monetary donation, create a basket or donate items in your family name. Donations can be left in the front office or call Steve to arrange for pickup.
Remember, the carnival and silent auction are PTA’s largest fundraisers of the year. PTA funds our educational programs like PEACE Week and International Culture Club, school field trips, the new marquee, school assemblies and more! Our community support has been vital to the success of our auctions in the past so let’s keep it going!
Contact Silent Auction Chair with any questions or to arrange a pickup.

To become a Sea Lion Sponsor of Project SEEK, check your child’s folder for our donation form, visit or snap the QR code.  Grandparents and family members are always welcome to donate and get involved, as well.

If every McGaugh family were to donate $150, we would meet our annual fundraising goal to fully fund these programs.  Of course any amount is always welcome and greatly appreciate! We hope you can join us in our efforts to keep these amazing programs running. We are so grateful for your continued support of art and technology at McGaugh!

Did you know there is an incredible 100+ page yearbook put together each year by a group of volunteer parents for the promoting class, reflecting on all 6 years the students spent at McGaugh? It is such a treasured memento for these students!

Do you like to take pictures of your student throughout the year and reflect on their growth? Do you like to organize photos and use your creative mind to design an awesome collector’s book for your kid? If YOU are interested in participating, we are looking for a group of 5th grade parents who would like to put together this year’s yearbook for the 2022 graduating class!
Please email Christine Barhoma if you’re interested!
