Principal's Message

Hello Sea Lion Families,

October brings us to the end of our first quarter and the opportunity for you to meet with your child’s teacher regarding their academic progress.  This conference is a chance to discuss your child's progress thus far in the year.  You will also receive a progress report and learn about your child's goals through the remainder of first semester.  PLEASE BE SURE TO SIGN UP FOR A CONFERENCE with your classroom teacher. Parent/teacher conferences will be held, this week, on Oct. 17, 18, 20, 21, & 24

During parent/teacher conferences, we are on a MINIMUM DAY dismissal. All students attend school from 7:55 am - 12:30 pmWednesday, Oct. 19th is a regular modified Wednesday, with a dismissal of 1:20pm. School will be back to our regular schedule for all students on Tuesday, October 25th. I look forward to seeing you as you visit our school during conference week!

UNITY DAY
October’s Wellness Challenge is “Bullying Prevention”. To go along with the classroom lessons and activities on campus, we will celebrate Unity Day. October 19th is celebrated nationally as “Unity Day.” This is a signature event of National Bullying Prevention month, in which the key message is centered around kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. On this day, we encourage staff and students to wear orange as this color symbolizes our support for unity and the prevention of bullying. Feel free to watch this video with your Sea Lions for a special message around bullying.

SCHOOL SAFETY/DISASTER PREPAREDNESS INFO
On Thursday, October 20, at approximately 10:20AM, McGaugh staff and students will participate in the Great California Shake-out where we will evacuate our buildings as if a 7+ magnitude earthquake had hit the southland. Students will evacuate to the grass field as the staff performs duties that include Search and Rescue, First Aid, manning the Student Release, and Reunion Gates, Damage Assessment, etc. In the case of a true emergency, such as an earthquake, you would come to the west side of McGaugh and enter the gated area at the corner of Bolsa and Riviera (alongside the tennis courts.) At the check-in you will fill out a form requesting to pick up your child. You should know your child's teacher's name and Room number. You would then be directed to either Gate 11 (UTK-Grade 2) or Gate 12 (Grade 3-5) to meet your child. Keep in mind that this will be the ONLY way to retrieve your children; this is for their safety and our accountability!
