Principal's Message

Dear McGaugh Families,

Please join me in a HUGE thank you to McGaugh parent and author Kara Kotecki. Ms. Kotecki held an author’s visit for our UTK-2^nd grade Sea Lions on her new book, Mae and Namaste. Mae and Namaste is about a child who experiences BIG feelings that she struggles to wrangle. She learns to tame those feelings by practicing Yoga. Yoga encourages us to bend, stretch, and breathe to find your Namaste. Mrs. Kotecki shared the background of her inspiration on writing the book, she did a read aloud, and held a question-and-answer session. Afterward, she held a short yoga flow activity similar to the ones in the book. Finally, students were provided with two activity sheets on Mae’s yoga moves. Student and teachers alike felt the impact of having a strong feeling and learning a new strategy to tame those BIG emotions. Thank you, thank you, Mrs. Kotecki for sharing your amazing book and journey with our McGaugh Sea Lions.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT
We invite all incoming sixth-grade parents and guardians to our annual presentation on transitioning to middle school on Thursday, January 26, at 6:00 PM in the Los Alamitos High School (LAHS) Performing Arts Center.

Prior to the general presentation, there will be two additional information sessions. The first will be focused on special education services and resources for currently enrolled students. The second meeting is for students who are NOT currently enrolled in the Los Al Unified School District but are interested in applying for an Inter district Permit.

LAEF Spring After-School Enrichment Classes

Classes begin January 30th! This is an experience your children will not want to miss. There are opportunities every day of the week to get some physical activity in and to possibly try something new/exhilarating. The TK-K only classes will be 55-minute classes and the 1st -5th classes as well as Wednesday classes will be 1 hour and 15 minutes. The classes available at McGaugh are Acting/Stage Performance, Basketball, Breakdance 101, Chess, Fitness and Agility, Full STEAM Ahead, Happiness Mindset, LEGO Academy, Masters of the Field, Musical Theater, Ohana Fitness, Origami, Soccer, and Volleyball.

The class fee is $175. Strategic Kids and Chess classes have a $24 materials fee. Class fee increases after January 24th.

FREE virtual world language classes for 1st - 5th graders begin February 6th!

Multi-class discounts available – 10% off the 2nd class and 15% off any class thereafter. All registration information including class descriptions and instructor bios are presented at LAEF4kids.org/afterschool.
