A New Way Forward

In case people missed reading our latest Press Release, the NCA and Custodia - represented by Brooke Shields - have agreed to sit down and try to negotiate a settlement regarding eight double-titled properties that are part of a lawsuit. We welcome this opportunity to try to resolve the conflict in a collaborative and respectful way. Negotiations are just beginning and we will keep our members informed as things progress. Once again, here is the press release.

Administrative Warnings Update

We just received word that the Registro has lifted annotations from 40 properties in Esperanza. This is a result of the Registro’s ongoing study of all the properties in our area. Annotations have now been lifted on 160 properties. As described in our last newsletter, property owners with annotations should continue to have patience with the process, as the Registro completes its studies.

NCA Parklands Update

Our surveying work is on schedule and should be completed in the next few days. We have been working with a graduate student on a carbon mapping project to measure the amount of carbon in our parklands. The initial phase is almost complete, and the next step is to pay for a Certification of our carbon. With this Certification we will be able to sell our carbon credits and use the proceeds to help pay for the monitoring and maintenance of our properties - which will be an ongoing expense.

Beach Protection

Over 3,100 trees have been planted on our beach this year, with plans to continue planting through the rainy season. Results can already be seen as more birds are using the new habitat. A big thank you to Gerardo Bolaños and all the staff and volunteers of Costas Verdes.

Extraordinary Assembly Results

At our August Extraordinary Assembly Meeting, the members voted in Nick Fairman as Vocal and Carl Wells as Fiscal. Motions to donate land to the ASADA for one of its wells and to donate the land the dump sits on to Don Arnulfo – the operator of the dump – both passed unanimously.

New Ostional Law

The NCA helped coordinate a meeting between MINAE and the community of Guiones back in June to explain the changes that the new Ostional Law will bring to our community. We have finally received the first draft of the regulations of the law which is open for feedback and comments from the community. The NCA board and legal advisors will be sending feedback and we invite the community to do the same and send your comments to us or directly to MINAE. Deadline is September 9th. Una Nueva Dirección

En caso de que algunos no hayan leído nuestro más reciente Comunicado de Prensa, la ACN y Custodia - representado por Brooke Shields- han acordado reunirse y tratar de llegar a un acuerdo sobre las ocho propiedades con doble título que son parte de la demanda legal. Damos la bienvenida a esta oportunidad para tratar de resolver el conflicto de manera conjunta y respetuosa. Las negociaciones apenas están iniciando y mantendremos a nuestros miembros informados sobre el progreso del proceso.
Una vez mas, aquí está nuestro comunicado de prensa.

Actualización Sobre Advertencias Administrativas

Acabamos de recibir notificación que el Registro ha eliminado las anotaciones de 40 propiedades en Esperanza. Esto es un resultado de las investigaciones en transcurso del Registro sobre todas las propiedades en nuestra área. Se han eliminado las anotaciones de 160 propiedades en total hasta el día de hoy. De la misma manera que lo mencionamos en nuestro boletín pasado, los propietarios con anotaciones deben tener paciencia con el proceso mientras el Registro completa sus investigaciones.

Actualización Sobre Areas Verdes de ACN

Nuestra labor de topografía va de acuerdo a lo planificado y el proceso debería estar completo en los próximos días.
Hemos estado trabajando con un estudiante de posgrado para medir la cantidad de carbono en nuestras areas verdes. La fase inicial ya casi está completa y el próximo paso es pagar por una Certificación de nuestro carbono. Con esta Certificación podremos vender nuestros bonos de carbono y usar ese ingreso para ayudar a pagar el monitoreo y mantenimiento de nuestras propiedades, lo cual será un gasto recurrente.

Protección de la Playa

Más de 3,100 árboles han sido sembrados en nuestra playa este año y el proyecto Barriguiones está contemplado seguir sembrando durante la temporada lluviosa. Los resultados ya se pueden ver y hay más pájaros usando el nuevo hábitat. Un gran agradecimiento a Gerardo Bolaños y a su personal y a los voluntarios de Costas Verdes.

Resultados de Asamblea Extraordinaria

Durante la Asamblea Extraordinaria que se llevó a cabo en agosto, los miembros eligieron a Nick Fairman para Vocal y Carl Wells para Fiscal. La propuesta de donar terreno a ASADA para ubicar un pozo y donar el terreno en el cual se encuentra el basurero a Don Arnulfo, el operador del vertedero, fueron ambas aceptadas de manera unánime.

Nueva Ley Sobre Ostional

La ACN ayudó a coordinar una reunión entre el MINAE y la comunidad de Guiones en Junio, para aclarar los cambios que la nueva Ley de Ostional traerá a nuestra comunidad. Hemos recibido un primer borrador de las regulaciones de la ley y están abiertas a comentarios y críticas constructivas de parte de la comunidad. La Junta Directiva y asesores legales de la ACN estarán enviando sus comentarios e invitamos a la comunidad a hacer lo mismo y enviar sus preguntas y comentarios a nosotros o directamente al MINAE. La fecha límite para enviar sus comentarios es el 9 de setiembre. Siga éste enlace para ver el borrador.
