SPACE WEATHER WOMAN

Music To My Eyes

Dear <<First Name>>,

As I get back into the swing of things and begin writing as frequently as I used to, I realized this week is a good time for this to happen. I wanted to notify you about the new mid-week Space Weather News forecast I put up. It heralds the return of two very active regions into Earth view. These regions, namely old 2738 and 2739, have been wreaking havoc on the Sun's backside for the past two weeks. As they return Earthside, they show no sign of slowing. In fact, this is why I labelled my latest forecast "Wham! Bam! Thank You Sun." These two regions had just fired back to back solar storms in plain view of STEREO A when I first saw them. They were music to my eyes and like the David Bowie song, they inspired the phrase.

So for the forecast, we are keeping a close eye on this musical pair. The solar flux is rapidly rising and radio propagation on Earth's dayside is improving. We have already seen several C-class flares from old 2738 (renamed 2740) and it isn't totally in view yet! If this kind of music keeps up, we might even see a solar storm launched in Earth's direction in the coming days. Just as in the picture above, I feel like I'm standing in front of a music store, staring lovingly at the instruments, waiting for their song. My eyes and ears are tuned to the sound.

Speaking of music, I promised in my letter to you last week that I would let you know when I finished my new behind-the-scenes "Rocket to My World" episode for my Patreon project. This was the magical day in Bern when I recorded the Cathedral Bells ringing from the top of the Münster Cathedral nearly simultaneously with Mars itself ringing like a bell due to the Martian quake. If you want to see the full experience, here is the link: Rocket to My World - Behind the Scenes in Switzerland 2019. Some found it so moving that they've asked me to share a short version for the public-- I will do that when I get a free moment. But for now, the Sun is music enough.

Cheers,
Tamitha
