January 2016

From the CEO

Welcome to the first newsletter for EV GP Training (EV). As a new organisation there are a range of important matters we are diligently working on so that GP training in our region can be delivered in the most effective, high quality manner.

Recruitment for EV is all but complete. We were delighted with the take up of acceptances by existing supervisors, medical educators and program support staff to continue their involvement through EV GP Training. As we know, the last year was full of uncertainty. To have people on board who know what it means to deliver a quality GP training program in Eastern Victoria, is both gratifying and augurs well for our current and future cohorts.

Provider Numbers

Wherever possible, EV staff support and assist registrars in obtaining their provider  numbers for upcoming placements. However, it is important to note our ability to influence the Department of Health and Medicare over provider number decisions and the timing of their release, is limited. Medicare operate on a very standardised process and it is generally a ‘first in first out’ exercise. In other words, we can contact Medicare on your behalf but this may not influence the timing of receipt of your provider number.

A contact list has been developed to streamline your enquiries to EV. If you are unsure who to contact, Ms Jo Kelly can direct you to the relevant staff member. See the list here.

Responsibilities of training facilities and supervisors

Practices and supervisors involved in the delivery of the AGPT program have certain responsibilities. The Practice Agreement for 2016 refers, at 4.1, to responsibilities of training facilities and supervisors and they are also contained in the Standard Funding Agreement (SFA). Read an extract of the Operational Guidelines from the SFA, Section 5 relates to responsibilities around practice management.
