Hello Everyone,

First and foremost, on behalf of myself and the entire board of CSJO, we wish you and yours a very happy Pesakh! The local affiliate news bits I've been receiving inform me that almost all, if not all, of you are going to be celebrating with a communal Seder. I wish you great fun, deep meaning, and delicious food! This is my favorite holiday and I'll be spending it with my family.

I know that each family and community has its own tradition. In my family, the tradition is that someone looks at the number of the last page of the Hagada and says, "Ma/Bobbe! Eighteen pages!? What were you thinking?" So, one year I decided to cut the Hagada down dramatically. And guess what? Everyone kvetched, because their "favorite" parts were missing, so we're back to 18 pages!

A number of years ago, in my own intercultural family, the children helped make the matza balls for the Seder one evening and then they colored Easter eggs for the Easter dinner the next day. It struck me as being an important intercultural event, and I thought it should be told. So now, CSJO has published the book I wrote, called — what else — "Matza Balls and Easter Eggs." This is a book for intercultural families who celebrate both Passover and Easter. The book itself is a celebration — of the similarities of people from different cultures. Grandparents and parents should read this book for their grandchildren and children. Sweet and happy reading! The price of the book is $5.95, and it can be purchased through CSJO at or by calling 216-481-0850.

By now, you've all received the CSJO conference information. I'm looking forward to the U.S. Memorial Day weekend in Toronto and I hope that many, many of you will also attend this yearly event. If you haven't done so yet, please check out the conference and registration information at

Many of you have also received the election ballot from CSJO. Please take the time to vote and send your completed form(s) to us. It's important.

Again, Happy Pesakh to all!

Best wishes,

Rifke Feinstein
