On too many recent days we have heard news about acts against Jewish community centers, Jewish cemeteries, graffiti on the homes of Jewish families and even a bullet hole in a synagogue classroom. These acts of terrorism have occurred throughout the United States and in some areas of Canada. We must stand up against this and all forms of terror.

The Congress of Secular Jewish Organizations has made a financial donation to assist with the cleanup of one of the vandalized cemeteries. Additional funds above and beyond the cost of the restoration will go to assist with other security issues in other Jewish communities. Below is a portion of an article that explains more about the fund and a link to read the full article.

Mt. Carmel Cemetery and Security Response
The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia is deeply grateful to the THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE, representing diverse backgrounds and beliefs, who have joined with us to stand up against hate and build a more just society in the wake of recent acts of vandalism of the Mt. Carmel Cemetery and bomb threats at Jewish institutions. We especially thank the donors who have so generously made gifts and the volunteers who have so generously shared their time.

Convening Our Communities to Make a Difference
As a result of the time, talent and treasure being shared after the recent desecration of Mt. Carmel Cemetery and threats being called into Jewish institutions, together we have:
  • Secured more than 2,400 gifts and $156,000 for our Mt. Carmel Cemetery project. Any donations that exceed the cost of restoration and repairs will go directly to addressing the growing and long-term security needs of our Jewish communities.
  • Connected hundreds of volunteers with hands-on opportunities to cleanup, repair and document the damage to Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
  • Organized a Stand Against Hate on Independence Mall to ensure our voices are heard as we condemn all acts of hatred and violence and reinforce our belief in the power of peace.
