Hello Everyone,
Another e-newsletter to keep you up to date with CSJO happenings!
Three young people from CSJO went to the SHJ HuJew Conclave in Chicago. The following are comments they made upon their return:
  1. Daniel C: "...enjoyed the Saturday morning community service program ... bagging food for the homeless and less privileged. Enjoyed the interactive group study of a Jewish text. I will go back next year!"
  2. Cliel S: "...learned a lot as the topics and discussions were interesting. Would suggest that only high school students attend, not college-age students."
  3. Madi B: "... really enjoyed the Shabbat program and the community service. The song group was a nice way to end the conclave."
Thanks to Karen Knecht who made this trip possible for Dan, Cliel and Madi.
The CSJO ballots will be arriving soon. Julie Stelton, unfortunately, resigned. We are pleased to announce that Jacinda Bauman, from the Jewish Secular Community and School in Oak Park, Ill., has agreed to fill Julie's position for the remainder of the term. When you receive the ballot, please fill it in as soon as possible and return it to me (Rifke Feinstein) via the address on the ballot.
We are pleased to announce that CSJO is now an endorsing member of the Secular Coalition for America. Check them out at
The annual CSJO conference will take place at Glendon College, in Toronto, from May 27-30, 2016.
Keynote speakers will be:
  • Richard Borshay Lee, a University Professor Emeritus of Anthropology at the University of Toronto.
  • Lucah Rosenberg-Lee, a documentary film maker. His latest documentary is called "Passing," which depicts Lucah's experience being a trans-man of color in society today.
The program will also be celebrating the 100th anniversary of Sholem Aleichem's yuhrtzayt!
You will be receiving the conference brochure shortly, which will give you much more information. Also, please fill the registration form out as soon as possible.
CSJO is proud to announce its latest publication. This children's book, which was written for children in intercultural families, is called "Matza Balls and Easter Eggs." It will be available for sale at the conference and online. I humbly say that I'm the author.
The Philadelphia Children's Fokshul, which is primarily a Sunday school but has a long history as an adult community as well, has been very active in presenting wonderful adult programming. Look at its exciting website:
Until next month, I wish you a peaceful time and a creative month.
Sholem! Shalom! Peace!
