Meet Allie Omens, Three Zeros Environmental Initiative Leadership Award Winner

This year’s award recipient has led two environmental student organizations, organized a conference on green business practices and worked to bring renewable energy to low-income communities.  The Three Zeros Environmental Initiative Student Leadership Award is an annual award that is open to all students from the previous academic year in recognition for their work in moving UNC-Chapel Hill toward the Three Zeros goals. Interim Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz presented Allie with her award during the Three Zeros Day celebration in the Pit Oct. 7.

2018 Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report Released

On Oct. 4, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill released its 2018 Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report, which includes progress to date on achieving carbon neutrality and greenhouse gas reduction.  This report and the accompanying infographic track progress toward the goal of Net Zero Greenhouse Gases – one of the Three Zeros.  Did you know that since 2007, UNC has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 19% overall, even as the campus expanded in size?

A Restoration for the Future

The University is working steadily to decrease its carbon footprint and move away from using coal. Campus administrators continually look for ways to reduce overall energy consumption and increase the use of renewable energy while lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
