UNC-Chapel Hill named EPA Grant Recipient for Stormwater Management Project

The EPA awarded UNC-Chapel Hill’s Stormwater Management office in the Energy Services Department nearly $200,000 to improve the quality of water that runs off campus. The project will focus on transforming the pond at the UNC Outdoor Education Center from its use as a feature on the University’s former golf course to a stormwater wetland. This project will not only benefit downstream water quality, but it will also serve as an educational tool for the Outdoor Education Center to inform visitors about environmental issues. The plan is in collaboration with Chancellor Folt’s Three Zeros Environmental Initiative, as the focus is centered around creating a living learning laboratory that will improve water quality for the Carolina Community. Green Tip

Laundry Video

Freshen up your semester with these simple tips to make doing laundry more environmentally-friendly. When purchasing detergent, look for one that is eco-friendly. Save time and energy by only doing full loads of laundry on the coldest setting possible. After washing, remove the lint before beginning drying because lint buildup increases the time it takes to dry your clothes while using more energy.
