Green Tip

Go green this year during your spring clean! As you take inventory of your belongings or are getting rid of your supplies at the close of the semester, don’t forget to recycle and donate what you can. Recycle unwanted class notes, unread magazines, and old mail. If you’re moving to a new house or apartment after the semester and don’t have room for all your stuff – don’t throw them out – donate them at donation stations at each resident hall. Read more »

UNC’s Edible Campus Garden Opening and Celebration

On Earth Day, nearly 100 people participated in the opening of the new Edible Campus garden behind Davis Library. Participants planted seeds and painted signs for the garden. Chancellor Folt made an appearance at the garden, where she spoke with students and helped plant a fig tree. Read more »

Carolina Campus Community Garden Solar Greenhouse Ribbon Cutting

On Earth Day students, faculty, staff, and community members gathered at the Carolina Campus Community Garden for the ribbon cutting of the new solar greenhouse, funded by the Renewable Energy Special Projects Committee. The greenhouse incorporates all three forms of solar energy: passive, photovoltaic, and thermal. This system will generate electricity for the greenhouse, as well as hot water for heating the beds under seedlings started in the greenhouse. Read more »

2017 Appalachian Energy Summit

The 2017 Appalachian Energy Summit will be held from July 10-12 in Boone. There are a variety of opportunities for students interested in energy efficiency, environmental impact, and renewable energy. Students will benefit from three days of peer collaboration, exposure to career opportunities, and energy related programming, while having all expenses paid for. Students will also be able to present research during a poster competition. Read more »

Future of Energy Maymester Course

Enroll in ENEC 490: The Future of Energy with Dr. Gangi to get an in depth look at what the future of energy could hold and how we will get there. This course will integrate field trips and guest speakers, as well as a trip to the legislature to meet with elected officials. Read more »

Climate Carnival - May 13

Join the Abundance foundation this Saturday, May 13, from 12-8pm for their Climate Carnival. The carnival will have something for everybody including hands-on activities, short films, education tables, local organization booths, artists and vendors boasting eco-friendly products or services, live music, artistic performances, food vendors, and several speaker sessions throughout the day. The evening will wrap up with an After Party. Read more »
