Plenty of race results in this long over due May edition now the running season is getting busy.  Well done to all the Comrades runners and City 2 South entrants that enjoyed the cool windy conditions.  Great effort by Maria Proctor and Neil Anthony for taking line honours in the Beet Mile.  Online entries for the Tarawera Ultra are now open and it looks like we will have a good group of runners going over again next year.

Don't forget the winter trail series will kick off on Wed the 22nd of June with "A Winters Trail" night time run and post run gathering.

RCR Gold Coast Marathon Festival  - Just a reminder that race fees are now due for anyone that joined as a member of the RCR team.

The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) are conducting Australia’s largest study to determine the role of genetics in exercise-induced bone and tendon injuries.  They are looking for runners to complete the online survey, details of which can be found on their website

2016 Beer Mile for Breast Cancer

This event was planned for Saturday however the "extreme weather" event forecast did bring plenty of rain and so the event organiser Susannah Harvey-Jamison postponed the race to Sunday.  In very windy conditions the entrants prepared their beer, coke and champaign for the race.

For those not familiar with the event there is a set of official rules and official fastest times.  One starts by drinking a beer and then runs a quarter mile which is repeated another three times, all going to plan you run a mile and drink four beers or cokes etc.  I have heard of ice cream miles or ginger beer miles but beer and champaign were the flavour of the day.

Neil started well on his first beer and held the lead never being over taken as did Maria.  Asked about training after the event Maria gave us all an insight into the stunning simplicity of her training regime, "I drink a lot and run a lot." Beautiful in its clarity and simplicity how could one go wrong,  you see that insightful thinking is what it takes to stay on the podium.  Neil did have some close competition but in the end I think the days of practice in the university tavern must have come in handy, or was it the practice from last weekends Gentleman Runners gathering?

I put my hands together for the other entrants as well they all finished despite the cold windy conditions.  The winner of course is Breast Cancer research.

Have you got Old Shoes to Recycle

Have you got running shoes that you no longer use but don’t want to throw  in the bin?  They can be put to good use.  Shoes play such an important role in everyone’s lives – can you imagine not owning a pair?
Many people have nothing to keep their feet warm and clean and we can all do our little bit to help those less fortunate than ourselves.
Please help us to deliver your shoes as quickly as we can by following the guidelines below;

  • SPORTS SHOES only please.
  • NO HOLES AND GOOD SOLES. It is not worth shipping shoes to an orphanage in Southern Africa if they are broken! We want to send shoes that will last a whole winter.
  • CLEAN! Would you like to receive a dirty pair of shoes? They can be hand scrubbed or washed on a short cold cycle in the washing machine. Best dried in the sun stuffed with newspaper – no tumble trying please as it destroys the shoe.

Jodie can collect shoes from people if that is more convenient.  “I will have a box in my car.  I am usually at QSAC on Tuesday mornings and sometimes Saturday.”
