Race Results

April 17th
Red Rock to Coffs Harbour
This would have been the biggest club outing so far this year, almost 20 members made the trip to Opal Cove for the BBQ the night before then a run along the beaches and headlands the next day.  Its a pretty low key event but the showers at the surf club had hot water and the post race nutrition consisted of great sandwiches, cakes, water melon and an award winning jam and coconut slice.  Such events are hard to come by these days the Elleker 10k and Half Marathon is one other that I know of on the 5th June if you ever venture to southern WA sometime.  You can click on this link to read a bit from the local magazine on the race.
April 10th
Canberra Marathon
Mike Ford did a great job flying the RCR flag in Canberra finishing the marathon in 3:40:41.  While Garry Bourne finished the Half marathon in 2:06:47

April 3rd
Paris Marathon
Well done to Heidi Gould who finished her first marathon in Paris in 4:51:18.

April 2nd
Gold Coast Cross Country Trail Series
More podium finishes here for Maria Proctor in the 6km placing 2nd female in 27:42, Pat Coglan 28:17.  In the 20km event Maria Gordon ran well crossing the line in 1:50:04, Tim Oborne 1:23:52.

Running Funny's

1. A condition attained after one repeatedly finishes races on the podium where upon they become so used to this that they can no longer accept anything less.  Podiumosis can be a precursor to narcissistic personality disorder NPD.  The topic of discussion turned to Maria's podiumosis and if her mental resolve would be sufficient to allow her to pick herself up after the inevitable fall from the top of the podium.

1. Envy of someone who always finishes on the podium.
2. Health condition resulting from a parters repeated podium finishes requiring all doorways to be widened such that the partner can enter or exit.  Chris's podiumitis only got worse after every Parkrun or 5km race Maria went in.

Have you got Old Shoes to Recycle

Have you got running shoes that you no longer use but don’t want to throw  in the bin?  They can be put to good use.  Shoes play such an important role in everyone’s lives – can you imagine not owning a pair?
Many people have nothing to keep their feet warm and clean and we can all do our little bit to help those less fortunate than ourselves.
Please help us to deliver your shoes as quickly as we can by following the guidelines below;

  • SPORTS SHOES only please.
  • NO HOLES AND GOOD SOLES. It is not worth shipping shoes to an orphanage in Southern Africa if they are broken! We want to send shoes that will last a whole winter.
  • CLEAN! Would you like to receive a dirty pair of shoes? They can be hand scrubbed or washed on a short cold cycle in the washing machine. Best dried in the sun stuffed with newspaper – no tumble trying please as it destroys the shoe.

Jodie can collect shoes from people if that is more convenient.  “I will have a box in my car.  I am usually at QSAC on Tuesday mornings and sometimes Saturday.”

Great to see so many members on the weekend come along to finish the 14080km round Australia Run Down Under journey with Jodie.  The team from Run Down Under provided those who came along with some free visors and cup cakes.
