COVID-19 Information

April 27, 2020

Dear Members,

Over the weekend, the Missouri Dental Practice Recovery Task Force worked diligently on a guidance document for reopening dental offices. Much will be determined by the necessary PPE needed, thus, it’s critical the state be able to assess the need from Missouri dental offices. Please read the following Missouri PPE Marketplace information and sign up. Look for more information from the Taskforce coming this week.

Be well and take care,

Vicki Wilbers
MDA Executive Director

Help Assess Needs: Sign Up at Missouri PPE Marketplace

Last week we shared a link to the Missouri PPE Marketplace, a tool from the State developed to help health care providers connect with Missouri manufacturers and suppliers of PPE. The state has shared that close to 400 providers have signed up. Signing up helps inform the PPE need across the state as well as help identify new suppliers and manufacturers of PPE. The state advises to use Edge, Chrome, Firefox or Opera as your Internet browser (Internet Explorer will not work). They also have reported that emails to complete the registration are sometimes going to junk or spam email folders. They are addressing this, but advise to check those folders if you have started the registration process and have not gotten your email.

Connect4Success Onsite Meeting Cancelled

Out of an abundance of caution and fiscal responsibility, the MDA Board decided to cancel any onsite C4S gathering in June. We are exploring how to continue to offer some great CE and member connection, and look forward to providing updates.

Letter to Governor: Allocate PPE to Dentistry

Today the MDA sent another letter to Governor Parson to remind him of the critical importance for dentists to have an adequate supply of N95 masks to treat patients—many of whom may have been delaying non-emergency care for many weeks, treatment that now may be reaching a critical point that needs to be addressed in the dental office. The letter states, “It is our understanding that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will soon be shipping quantities of N95 masks to the states to use at their discretion. We respectfully request that you consider appropriating equitable proportion of those masks to dentists so that the people in our state can obtain the dental care they need and want while still protecting the members of the dental team, our patients and ultimately the public at large.”

ADA Interim Guidance Toolkit for Returning to Work

Today the ADA announced its Return to Work Interim Guidance Toolkit is available. Developed with oversight from the ADA’s Task Force on Practice Recovery and with input from ADA team experts, the toolkit is designed to offer useful tips for managing your practice during the COVID-19 pandemic. Because knowledge about COVID-19 continues to evolve, the toolkit and its offerings will be continually reviewed and updated as new information becomes available. The toolkit currently includes:
  • Customizable letter to patients
  • Guidance for pre-appointment screening, in-office patient registration, and post-procedure patient exit
  • Staff protection strategies
  • Chairside checklist for working in the operatory
  • Supplies shopping list

Apply Now for PPP Program That Re-Opened Today

The Small Business Administration resumed accepting Paycheck Protection Program loan applications this morning. In a statement posted late April 24, the SBA said the April 27 resumption date was to “ensure that [the agency] has properly coded the system to account for changes made by the [Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act].” For more information on the Paycheck Protection Program, including a list of lenders by state, visit SBA.gov/paycheckprotection. For detailed information on applying for the Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster Loans, the ADA’s Dental Practice Success has an article with step-by-step instructions.
