BUT WHY A HOSPITAL SHIP?

Have you ever wondered why Mercy Ships uses hospital ships, of all things, to deliver free medical services to people in desperate need?

It might seem like a surprising concept on its surface. But dig a bit deeper and you'll find that, actually, a ship is the most efficient way to bring a state-of-the-art hospital and medical care to regions where clean water, electricity, and medical facilities and personnel are limited or nonexistent.

That's because more than 50% of the world's population lives within 100 miles of a coast — meaning Mercy Ships can reach tens of thousands of people by docking at a single port for 10 months at a time.

Visit our website to learn more about how our charity has used hospital ships to deliver free medical care to people in dire need for more than 40 years.

SHIP TO SHORE REPORT
When Salif's simple toothache grew into a much more complex facial tumour, he believed he was cursed. But Salif listened to wise advice from his biology teacher: "Trust modern medicine." After Mercy Ships volunteers healed him, he's taking that advice to heart: Now Salif wants to become a biology teacher, too. Find more inspiring stories on our Facebook page.
