NEXT STOP: SENEGAL!

The Africa Mercy has spent the past few weeks in dry dock, receiving important maintenance and a fresh coat of Mercy-blue paint before our next field service.

After the paint was dry and the maintenance was complete, it was finally time to put her back into the water. At 152 metres long and 16,572 tonnes, the Africa Mercy is the world's largest charity hospital ship — so putting her into the water is easier said than done!

Here, you can see the caravan of five bulldozers required to push the ship along the track toward its destination:

This week, we're making final preparations before we welcome our crew of 400 volunteers and set sail to care for the people in need in Senegal.

Thanks to our generous donors, we're planning to provide up to 1,700 free surgeries onboard the Africa Mercy in Senegal. We also aim to treat about 4,000 people at our HOPE Centre in Dakar.

We need all hands on deck! Learn how you can help make this possible.

The VR film 'Mercy' follows a Mercy Ships patient's journey to healing.

NOT JUST VR, BUT REALITY
Back in March, Mercy Ships teamed up with virtual reality developers at Oculus to create "Mercy," a VR experience that allows viewers to witness the story of Edith as she travels from her home to the Africa Mercy to receive life-changing surgery. The experience was so moving that "Mercy" was recently nominated for a UK VR award!

FUTURE FOOTBALLER?
“Maurinho loves football more than anything else," says his mum. "If people are playing football somewhere, no matter what you say, he will spend his time watching the game." But Maurinho was born with bowed legs, so try as he might, playing was painful. Maurinho was our first orthopaedics patient in Benin, and his determination inspires us all.
