CompassSport Cup qualifier, 12th February, Faskally, Pitlochry
Most of you will have seen either the Facebook post or our web news item, but just to remind you all that entries are now open for this event - Forestry and Land Scotland have finally granted permission. This is quite short notice, so we do not have the time as in previous years to collate information from individuals and then enter centrally. So Club members are encouraged to enter individually via SI entries. Please enter your CSC age class - those of you who ran last year will be familiar with the age classes. Details are on the entry page, but please contact me if you are unsure which class to enter. If we have several runners in one class we might suggest one or two changes in order to maximise point scoring opportunities. If we decide to do this I will email you individually.

Entry details can be found on the SI entry page for the event. The club has agreed that we will pay all of Junior entry fees, and half of Senior entry fees. Karen will arrange for you to be reimbursed after the event. You can find out more about the event at www.stag-orienteering.co.uk. Here you can also find information about travelling to the event - STAG are encouraging people to lift share (three or more in a vehicle) or use public transport by offering a reduction in entry fees to this or a future STAG event.

The event organiser will in due course send me a list of club members that have entered and time slots on each course that our club has been allocated. I can then allocate you to an early, middle or late time slot. Please email me (club(at)mor.scot) after you have entered indicating whether you have a preference for an early, middle or late start.

Moray 2023  - note from Elizabeth
The Scottish 6 Days will be hosted by Moravian Orienteers in 2023 (July 30th – August 4th ) and although we are a fairly small club we will, as usual, rise to the occasion.

This bi-annual orienteering festival attracts orienteers from all over the UK and beyond; we already have entries from Scandinavia, Australia, USA and New Zealand. There will be courses for everyone (including YOU!): toddlers dashing round a String Course; all junior and senior age classes (M/W 10 – 80+) as well as Colour Coded from White to Green.

Each Scottish club is allocated a particular day to organise with Moravian being the coordinating club.  We already have several  club members volunteering in key roles and there are a number of ways in which all members can contribute to the success of the whole week for the many hundreds of people who will be coming to Moray 2023.

Details of different roles can be found on the club website here   https://www.mor.scot/node/235

Please volunteer for something!  Contact Elizabeth Furness (Event Coordinator)  coordinator (at) scottish6days.com

Next Events
Not long to wait. Our next event is tomorrow evening, part of the Northern Night Cup Series, at Forres golf course. Entries close today though, so please go here for details and entry links. 21 Moravians have entered so far.

The weekend of the 4th/5th January is a big weekend and incorporates our next MOR Regional event, see below.  Inverness Orienteering Club welcomes you to the capital of the Highlands for a Scottish Orienteering Urban League (SOUL 2) event on Saturday 4th Feb 2023.  Together with our Gordonstoun Regional Sprint Event on Sunday 5th Feb. This promises to be an exciting and varied weekend of orienteering suitable for all abilities and all ages.
The Inverness City Race 2023 will be run on classic urban terrain around the Kinmylies and Charleston area of the city. The area is a mixture of complex housing with many cut-throughs, dead-ends as well as open areas and parkland and provides an abundance of route choice opportunities.

Course Information:  There will be nine courses suitable for all abilities.

MOR Regional Event – Gordonstoun School Parkland/Urban Sprint
With special thanks to Gordonstoun School, we have a Level C Parkland/Urban Sprint event.  This event will be the second event in a weekend of sprint orienteering.

Gordonstoun School campus is ideal for an urban/parkland sprint and is virtually traffic free, so juniors may compete on any course without shadowing.
There are three sprint courses on offer (Long, Medium and Short) and a yellow course for beginners.  Newcomers and beginners should enter the yellow/beginner course only.  Parents following children do not need to enter.
Registration will open between 10:00-12:00 pm; starts between 10:30-12:30 pm; and the course closes at 2:00 pm.
Online entries to midnight Wednesday 1 February 2023, with late online entries available, with an additional £1 fee, to midnight Thursday 2nd February 2023.
Entry on the Day will be available for an additional £1 fee, subject to map and start time slot availability.
Full details are on the Moravian website, linked here Gordonstoun Urban/Parkland Sprint Event - Regional | Moravian Orienteers

Gordonstoun School offers some excellent parkland terrain and building infrastructure, with good path and road networks.  The area is ideal for an urban/parkland sprint and is virtually traffic free.  Three sprints courses and one yellow/beginner course will be available.  All courses will cross minor roads, with very low traffic density and within the School Grounds.  All courses will, therefore, be suitable for Juniors to run without shadowing.  Shorts are permitted but due to the woodland encountered on the sprint courses, full leg cover is highly recommended.  Gripped shoes are also highly recommended on the sprint courses as the terrain is likely to be muddy and slippery in parts, with some short steep sections of terrain.

Club Coaching The event is suitable as a 'come and try it' event for beginners.  Please enter the yellow/beginner course.  Coaching for Moravian Club beginners will also be available immediately before the event at 9.30 am, for about one hour.  Please email Morag (coach@mor.scot) to take part and meet at event registration (details below).  This coaching session will cover contours and control descriptions, and recap the previous sessions.  The event will also count towards Moravian's 'Saturday League' series.

Fran's amazing achievement
Those of you who have been following our MOR Facebook page will have been amazed by Fran's latest achievement !! Fran said

"Spine Challenger North … wow! What a way to use annual leave, in fact I think it’s the best kind of way! Emerging from the exhausted fug after finishing and trying to process it all! I think I’ll have to write one of my stories, there definitely isn’t enough word space on here! So very chuffed to have finished; spending the entire race with the very fab Katy Boocock was a joy. This race is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It felt like every section made you dig deeper than you ever had before. I don’t think I’ve ever had that!" #spinerace
