Report from the Edinburgh Big Weekend by Liz
 17 Moravians took part in the annual Edinburgh Big Weekend on 27-29 January organised by the students from Edinburgh University.
Peter, Morag, Kate & Finlay (3rd on jnr novice) McLuckie, Steve Smirthwaite, and Liz & Kathryn Barr all had fun on Friday evening at Fight with the Night in and around Dean Village, in spite of a few interesting map issues.
They were joined on Saturday for the urban in Morningside by Doug Murray (hypervet - 1st M85), Rob Parkinson, Penelope Smirthwaite, Liz & Andrew Campbell (1st supervet), Colin Hall, Donald & Oonagh Grassie, and Nikki (5th w vets) , Sophie (4th jnr women) & Anna Howard. Isobel H was on the student organiser team (3rd open women). Finlay also came 3rd in jnr men, and Morag (6th w vets).
In spite of a 40mph wind forecast, nine people stayed for the classic race on top of Arthur's Seat on Sunday morning with Finlay running well to come 5th on Blue. Well done to all who took part.
Liz & Andrew wimped out of the Classic Race in favour of a sedate Trail -O around Pollack Halls. First time and with some fiendish flag positions, they found it more challenging than they expected!
The photo above is of Andrew receiving the trophy for coming first in the Men's Super Vets in the 2022 Scottish Orienteering Urban League (SOUL). (He got his certificate at our club award ceremony). Michael should have picked up his trophy too for first in Men's Junior in SOUL 2022 but unfortunately it hasn't been returned yet by the previous recipient.

The results and Routegadget are now up for our Forres Golf Course Night Event from last Wednesday.
Next Events
20 Moravians are heading to SOUL 2 in the the Kinmylies and Charleston area of Inverness on Saturday before our own event at Gordonstoun, detailed below.
Our next big Moravian event is at Gordonstoun on February 5th. Liz has asked for volunteers to step forward to help on the day. You will of course be able to run as well. Please contact Liz at ‘ andrewandlizcampbell@outlook.com’ by close of play Thursday 2 February.
There are two reminders for you
- Michael has requested for juniors to bring a cake for the cake stall to support Moravian Juniors, and to help out on the day;
- And the event will be part of our Saturday League (even though the event is on a Sunday!).
Club Coaching Reminder from Morag
The next Club coaching session will be held for an hour at 09:30 at Gordonstoun School before the event there on Sunday 5 th February – please let Morag know if you would like to attend the coaching and also if you are able to help out if you are a coach or an experienced orienteer! coach@mor.scot
February 8th - Keppernach, nr Cawdor, Northern Night Cup 6
Last round of the Northern Night Cup. Organised and planned by Wullie Nicolson. Long, short and night novice course. Parking at Keppernach farm. Stay around for NNC final league positions and prize giving. INVOC juniors offering tea/coffee and bakes and taking donations to training weekends funds. bring your thermos mug to reduce waste. Offers of help on first aid and control collecting to Wullie Nicolson (see contact info in event details).

- Final closing for British Night Champs - Closing dates this coming Sunday, 5 February.
- Early entry booking rate, for British Long Distance Championships & JK weekend Sunday, 5 February
- British Middle and Sprint Championships, the early entry rate closes on Friday, 27 February.

Entry systems are run by external companies, and they do not always have a live link to British Orienteering's membership records and a couple of days' gap allows time for the entry systems to have refreshed their records.
