Dear Church Music alumni/ae community,

While I have met many of you in person in the past year, allow me to introduce myself to those who I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting. As of last year, I am the new director of the Master of Sacred Music program here at Perkins. It is a daunting task to follow in the steps of the inimitable Michael Hawn (no worries, I do NOT play the accordion). My first year has been filled with challenges and excitement, and I am happy to report that I find the work joyful and life-giving. Of course I owe any success to the partnership and support of Dr. Chris Anderson, Teresa Rosado, and Dr. Hawn, my colleagues in the church music program.

As I write this email, we are preparing for the start of a new semester here at Perkins. We are excited to begin this new academic year because it is, indeed, anniversary season for the MSM program! This year, we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Advent Service and of the MSM program. We also celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Seminary Singers! There is a lot to be grateful for, and we would like to celebrate in grand fashion with our upcoming Alumni Reunion. We have scheduled the reunion for March 9-11, 2020. We will start on a Monday to allow those of you who work at churches to make your way to Dallas and join us for an exciting three days of music, memories, and dreams for the future.

Please pencil these dates into your calendar. We would appreciate if you would be generous enough to let us know if you plan to attend the reunion—shoot us an email. We will be in regular communication regarding the program, and look forward to hosting you all here at SMU.

My best regards to all and in anticipation of a great time together,

Marcell Silva Steuernagel, Ph.D.
