EPPING: Town council opposes plans for ten three-bedroom houses

Epping Town Council has objected to plans for ten three-storey properties as part of a development plan for the car repairs site off Lindsey Street, Epping.

The planning and general purposes committee has welcomed the development of the brownfield site however states that it believes the layout needs to be looked at again with councillors concerned about how the three-storey blocks may affect loss of amenity such as overlooking for neighbours.

A council spokesman said: "The proposed buildings are located close to the site boundary near neighbouring houses.

"The addition of trees and landscaping to screen the site will not be adequate to conserve privacy and stop overlooking."

The town council also has concerns over parking on the site stating there is insufficient parking for the number of dwellings.

The spokesman said: "There are ten car parking spaces being proposed for ten three-bedroom dwellings and only two visitor parking spaces.

"There are severe parking issues in Epping and the insufficient parking from this scheme will put additional pressures on the surrounding roads."

HALLOWEEN: Fireworks fired at passing cars

Two drivers have recounted how a firework was thrown at their cars as they drove in Ongar and Theydon Bois last night.

One described the moment she saw a boy holding a firework "aiming it like a gun at the cars".

A number of incidents of fireworks being thrown at vehicles were reported during the evening with Everything Epping Forest alerted to youngsters throwing fireworks in Ongar High Street, North Weald High Road, Debden and Loughton Lane, Theydon Bois.

A woman, who asked to remain anonymous, was driving along Loughton Lane towards Theydon Bois with her son in the car when a firework was thrown from an oncoming car.

She told Everything Epping Forest: "I was just coming up to Red Oaks Mead and a firework come straight towards my car from a car heading towards Loughton.

"I slowed down as a car was coming out of Graylands. I looked in the wing mirror and the firework exploded right in front of the car coming out of Graylands.

"It was frightening as I had my son in the car and was shocked for it to happen."

Another woman spoke about the moment her car was targeted in Ongar High Street as she drove with three passengers.

She was by the library when a boy threw the firework from the bus stop opposite.

She said: "I was driving with my kids in the car and a boy was holding the firework in his hand, aiming it like a gun at the cars.

"Dangerous is an understatement."

A dispersal order was put in place in Theydon Bois after concerns about anti-social behaviour last night.

The order, which remained in force until 8am today (Monday), covered an area which covered the village green and shopping areas and allowed police to direct anyone suspected of causing anti-social behaviour to leave the area.
