Epping Forest College student shortlisted for national award

An Epping Forest College student has been shortlisted for the national BTEC Sport Student of the Year.

Ellis Steward, 18, a former Davenant Foundation School student from Buckhurst Hill, is studying the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science.

Lee Adams, Interim Learning Leader for Sport, Travel and Tourism and Public Services at Epping Forest College, said: "The fact that he his been shortlisted is a testament to the enormous amount of hard work and dedication he has shown in his time at Epping Forest College.

"Having arrived at the college in September 2015 Ellis has proved himself an outstanding member of his cohort who has excelled in all aspects course.

"Ellis has worked tirelessly to achieve a wealth of high-level grades and only last year had some of his assignment selected by BTEC as an example of clear distinction level work.

"In addition to being such a fantastic student, Ellis has also begun to make waves in amateur boxing circles and comes towards the end of his course with the very real possibility of making it as a professional athlete in his own right. However such is his dedication to his studies that he has first decided to pursue a Bachelor’s degree.

"All members of the sports department were delighted for him to have recently received an offer to study Exercise and Sport Science at the prestigious Exeter University; the number one ranked Sport Science institute in the UK and undoubtedly the right place for him to build on his already impressive repertoire of knowledge and practical skills.

"Ellis’ nomination for the BTEC award forms a fitting culmination of his time at Epping Forest College. He is very well liked by his peers and teachers, demonstrates an infectious enthusiasm for his subject and shows enormous drive to reach his goals."

College principal Saboohi Famili said: "We are delighted that Ellis has been shortlisted for the award.

"This is a fantastic achievement and illustrates what a dedicated student Ellis has been throughout his studies at Epping Forest College."
