On invitation of Université Pierre et Marie Curie, UNICA President Prof. Luciano Saso gave a talk at the EMMAG project meeting at Polytechnic University of Valencia. The EMMAG project, coordinated by UMPC, aims to reinforce the cooperation between universities of Mediterranean Partner Countries and European universities.

IRO meeting 2016
in Dubrovnik
Efficiency in internationalisation, projects supporting the work of IROs, and links with other UNICA Working Groups were at the core of the UNICA IRO meeting 2016, kindly hosted by the Centre for Advanced Academic Studies of the University of Zagreb in Dubrovnik, 26-27 April 2016.

6th UNICA-SGroup-Compostela Group
Joint Workshop
The 6th UNICA-SGroup-Compostela Group Joint Workshop: Rethinking competence development for students' employability: practical solutions for Europe took place on 14 April 2016 and was hosted by Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

The Student Conference "The Golden Wall" gathered 30 European students to discuss the refugee crisis and intercultural tolerance. The event took place in Subotica, town at the border between Serbia and Hungary and was organised by BOZAR, ESN Serbia, UNICA and IAU.

UNICA-MED meeting @AECHE Conference
An informal UNICA-MED meeting will take place on 25 May 2016 on the occasion of the 3rd Arab-Euro Conference on Higher Education (AECHE 3): Opportunities and Challenges for Arab and European universities in fulfilling their societal mission (University of Barcelona, 25-27 May 2016).

UNICA GREEN
Workshop
55 participants will take part in the 6th edition of the UNICA GREEN Workshop: Towards Carbon-Neutral Universities, hosted by the University of Rome "Tor Vergata" in cooperation with Sapienza University and Roma Tre University, 2-4 May 2016.

Rectors Conference at Charles University
Organised in framework of the 700th birthday anniversary celebrations of Charles IV, the Rectors Conference: "Legacy of Charles IV, Education and Academic Freedoms, Innovation and Open Society” will take place at Charles University in Prague,
13 May 2016.

"University, Culture and the City" Conference
The first "University Culture and the City" Conference (U. NOVA de Lisboa, 16-17 May 2016) will aim to collect practices and experiences in embedding Culture inside universities and showcase examples of successful cooperation between Universities and Cities' cultural Institutions.

DEA Mission to the Netherlands
Diplomatic, Economic and Academic
Mission to the Netherlands is organised by the International Diplomatic and Consular Society (CIDIC) in cooperation with UNICA on 10-12 May 2016.

PR & Communications Workshop
The 6th PR & Communications Workshop (University of Iceland, Reykjavik 6-7 June 2016) will focus on the complex process of shaping and implementing university PR & Communication strategy.

On Friday 29 April 2016 Sapienza University of Rome is hosting “Erasmus Generation – A Value for Europe,” an event dedicated to international mobility, which will open with a commemoration of the 13 Erasmus students who recently passed away in a bus accident in Spain. Read more.

Université Libre de Bruxelles and Waseda University (Tokyo, Japan) launched a Waseda University Brussels Liaison Office at the ULB campus in Brussels during the official inauguration on 25 April 2016 in the presence of Princess Astrid of Belgium. On 11 April, the privileged partnership agreement linking the two institutions since 2010 was renewed during a ceremony in Tokyo. Read more (in French)

University of Oslo opens a Centre for Extremist Research after winning a national competition last autumn. "Knowledge and insight can contribute to the fight against extremists. Research and prevention are important to secure the basic values of democracy, human rights and safety", said Norway's Minister of Education and Research Torbjørn Røe. Read more.

HousErasmus+: The project invites IROs and students to take part in a consultation on accommodation for international students and Erasmus+ trainees.

Erasmus Without Paper: a dream within reach? The aim of EWP project is to create an open source application for electronic exchange of students’ data. Call for proposals - Erasmus+ KA3 Social inclusion: The new call under Erasmus+ KA3 follows the Paris Declaration on "Promoting citizenship and the common values of freedom, tolerance and non-discrimation through education". Deadline for proposals: 31 May 2016. Read more.

News from the Secretariat

|
On the 7-10 April UNICA Project & Event Officer Dominique Montagnese and Communications Intern Audre Chudinskaite attended the AGM of Erasmus Student Network. UNICA's activities and UNICA-ESN cooperation was presented to more than 800 students. Dominique also held a workshop "Towards a Student-Centred University" based on the outcomes of PASCL project.
