Donors making a difference: Knocking down obstacles to COVID-19 vaccination 

The World Health Organization (WHO) and partners are redoubling efforts to give everyone the opportunity to get vaccinated for COVID-19. In Lesotho, teachers and school board members are taking special courses to help them promote vaccination among students, while in Kenya and other countries, health workers are taking their vaccination campaigns to homes and hard-to-reach groups. Africa and the Caribbean have undertaken broader efforts to target geographies with lagging vaccination rates. A new grant of US$ 16 million from the European Union Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) will support efforts in 15 African countries.

New plan to accelerate clean energy access for millions globally 

The United Nations and partners have launched two new initiatives to mitigate the global energy crisis and the pressing climate emergency. The UN-Energy Plan of Action Towards 2025 sets out a framework to increase energy access and accelerate transition while striving towards the goal of net zero emissions by 2050, all in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. In parallel, an Energy Compact Action Network has been launched to connect governments seeking support with businesses pledging financial assistance.

How four women in Malaysia built success during COVID-19

The UNCTAD’s Emprect programme has reached over 500.000 entrepreneurs in over 40 countries and taught vital skills about today's ever-changing business world. Four women in Malaysia took their learned skills to take advantage of market gaps to build a thriving and innovative businesses from that. Spotting a niche market, turning a passion into a business, using the internet in times of the pandemic, and tapping into innovation and networking has accelerated the growth of the female leadership.

Child Rights Connect: implementing the Guide on the rights of child human rights defenders in Moldova

Children are the advocates of our future and are becoming increasingly involved in defending their rights and speaking up about pressing issues. In Moldova, children who participated in demonstrations such as “Fridays for Future” often got into trouble. To protect them, the CRIC and Childs Rights Connect have initiated a new project and launched a law on human rights defenders. Children and non-state actors will be empowered, coalitions will be built, effective advocacy globally and locally will take shape and CHRD rights will be acknowledged and prioritized.

WHO, WIPO, WTO launch trilateral COVID-19 technical assistance platform 

On 11 April 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) jointly launched a new trilateral COVID-19 technical assistance platform, which aims to offer technical assistance to members as well as accession candidates on their capacity building needs to respond to the pandemic. In addition to addressing the need for vaccines, medicines, and technologies, the platform provides a contact form to facilitate communication between members and accession candidates and the trilateral organizations.

UNEP launches a new sustainable land use finance impact directory

Launched by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Climate Finance Unit and the UNEP-World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC), the Land Use Finance Impact Hub and its Positive Impact Indicators Directory will give financial institutions the opportunity to measure the impact of their investment in battling climate change. Investors will also be able to see the impact of financial institutions on the SDGs and therefore increase pressure on the institutions themselves to act accordingly.

UN Agencies are striving to improve their digital identity management systems. As the digital business and technology shared services hub for the UN, the International Computing Centre (UNICC) provides its expertise in securing solutions for each UN Agency’s particular needs. Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) represents a combination of encryption and authentication, making online communications trustworthy, within a secure infrastructure.
