Music Festival Details
Each year our middle and high school students have the opportunity to participate in a Music Festival, held at Highland Academy in Portland, Tennessee (near Nashville).
What is Music Fest? It is a wonderful event that includes students from many schools across the Kentucky-Tennessee region. This festival allows them to experience a large choir, orchestra, or band experience, as well as an active social event.
When is it? The Music Festival this year is March 14-17.
What will the students be doing there? Our students and sponsors will leave the school on Thursday morning, March 14 and arrive in Tennessee shortly after lunch. There will be a practice for the respective musical groups, followed by supper and then an evening outing to a nearby fun park. Friday will consist of more rehearsals in the morning and afternoon, and then there will be a sacred concert on Friday evening where the groups will perform some of the music they have practiced. Saturday’s schedule includes church in the morning, free time in the afternoon, and a secular concert in the evening. We will then return to LAA by early Sunday afternoon.
Where do the students stay and what will they eat? The students stay in Highland Academy's girls and boys dormitories and eat at their cafeteria, which provides healthy, balanced vegetarian meals (vegan is also available).
Can parents come to the concerts? Some parents choose to come down for the day on Saturday to enjoy the activities and the concert, then take their student home when the concert ends. (Please mark on the form attached if you or your family plan to eat any meals there at the school cafeteria with the students. Meals are $5 each per person.)
How much does it cost? The cost for the trip is $85, which covers all meals as well as the fun park on Thursday evening. Students may want to bring some extra spending money for the arcade or for extra snacks/food as we are traveling, but it is not necessary to do so.
The permission slip as well as the payment is due by Wednesday, February 27. Click here to view/print the permission slip, or watch for a paper copy from your student on Tuesday.
I hope you and your student(s) will consider participating in this wonderful event!
