Principal MatthewsPrincipal's Message

Excitement is in the air! School will be out in less than four days. Parties are planned and your Christmas shopping, we know, is all done! The grading period for the second quarter is coming to an end December 20th. Please be sure all make-up work is done! Report cards will be mailed soon afterwards, and again, if you do not receive yours, it may be because your tuition account is not current. All Christmas family food donations are due by Monday, December 17. Don’t forget our Christmas program is at 7:00 at Middletown tonight. I am anticipating a spectacular program! If you miss it, shame on you! As a reminder, a love offering will be taken up after the program. I would like to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas and a very blessed New Year. Enjoy the Christmas break and we will see you Thursday, January 3rd at 8 am. Remember, only you can prevent Christmas tree fires!

LAA Annual Christmas Program - Tonight!
LAA’s annual Christmas Program is tonight, Friday evening, December 14, at 7 pm at Middletown Seventh-day Adventist Church, 125 N. Watterson Trail. Every student in grades PreK-10 will be performing in their respective choirs (a required part of their music grade!), and our high school drama team will be presenting some special skits as well. Choir students are asked to be there by 6:30 sharp, wearing Christmas dress clothing (dresses for the ladies, and button-down shirts/ties/pants for the gents). This is definitely a highlight of the season and a wonderful evening together with our families and the community.
Christmas Families
Each year, we as an LAA family give to help a family or two in need within our own school. This year we will be doing the same. Each classroom will be gathering donations of either money, food items or cleaning/paper products. They will be collected through December 17.  Here are some ideas of helpful items if you choose not to donate money:
Cereal, rice, pasta, spaghetti sauce, canned or dry beans, canned veggies/tomatoes, canned fruit/applesauce, peanut butter, toilet paper, or all-purpose cleaning products.
Grad/Classroom/School Picture Orders
If you have not already ordered your student’s graduation, classroom, or school picture, the deadline is Wednesday, December 19th. Please bring all orders into the office by that day!

Health Nugget - 10 Ways to Improve Your Christmas
“No matter how healthy we are the rest of the year, the holidays tend to sabotage our good habits. Social events and travel plans distract us from normal exercise routines, and the food—oh, the food!—undermines the wholesome eating patterns we might normally encourage for our families.
But not all hope is lost: With a little creativity, you can incorporate a variety of family traditions into your holiday season that will not only be fun for the whole family, but will also support your family’s health goals. Here are ten top ideas for holiday traditions that will keep your family active, strengthen your family bonds, and promote all-around health and well-being.
  1. Sign up for a turkey trot.
  2. Bring in natural decorations.
  3. Swap family movie night for family story time.
  4. Take the family ice-skating.
  5. Draw the family together for a nightly ‘tree-sit’.
  6. Boost the nutrition factor in your holiday baking.
  7. Go out to see the lights – on foot!
  8. Count down to Christmas with a healthy Advent calendar.
  9. Give gifts that promote activity.
  10. Break out the board games."

It does not cost you anything, and Kroger will donate to our school based on the amount of sales we have from families that are signed up. This past quarter we had 31 families participating and earned $175! It only takes a minute to help us raise funds for the school without costing yourself a dime! You can register your Kroger shoppers card online today at Simply search by name to add LAA as your preferred charity.
