Principal MatthewsPrincipal's Message

Good morning! I am writing today during our IOWA testing for the 3rd-11th graders, so forgive me - today’s message will be quick! Our quarter is coming to a close on October 12, so be aware that grades will be coming home the following week. Remember to start scheduling your parent/teacher conference for October 18 between 12:30 and 6 pm. Picture Day is scheduled for the 10th, so be sure your son or daughter is wearing their Wednesday red uniform shirts. We are looking forward to an awesome fall festival, scheduled for Sunday the 14th. Remember it is a required day of school for our students - from 10-2 pm. We are looking at a new approach with different activites this year (as well as some of the old favorites!) that should engage all ages. Our fall constituency meeting will be held Thursday, October 4 at 7 pm at Middletown. All are welcome to come hear about the mission, planning, and finances for your school. Blessings!
David Matthews

The fall festival is fast approaching on Sunday, Oct 14th, from 10 am to 2 pm. This is a required school day and attendance will be taken. Each child (parent must assist for 6th grade and under) will be required to help for 30 minutes with one of the action-in-learning stations. Signups will be available soon. Middle School and High School Students are asked to be available for setup at 9:15am. Everyone will help with cleanup.
We would like to have vendor booths again. If you have a home business or craft to sell, we would love to showcase your product. Not interested in a booth, but still want to advertise your business? We are accepting donations for a silent auction. Help us, help you! Gain interest in your product while helping to fundraise.

Owl Day - Invite a friend!
On Friday, October 5, we are having a special day that is open to visiting students in grades PreK-8. We will start the day with our weekly chapel program, then we will be hosting a Raptor Rescue Group who will be bringing several owls and giving a special presentation. Then students will be returning to their classrooms for some fun owl-themed activities. A pizza lunch will be provided for all guests. JCPS is out of school that day, so if you know a student that would like to come, let them know. Registration is required as space will be limited. All interested parties must call the school office ahead to time to register.

School picture day is Wednesday, October 10, and you will want to ensure your student looks their best that day. All students must wear their red LAA shirt for picture day!
Cookie Dough!
Today is the last day for the cookie dough fundraising campaign. Orders are due today! If you have questions, contact Mrs. Roberts.

Health Nugget - How to Keep Peace in Your Family
“Most parents are aware that how they respond to … issues dramatically affects their child’s response. Use certain words and sentences and the child will comply. Express other statements and emotions and the child will resist and even rebel. Conflict management is a vital skill for promoting family health and unity. When it’s done properly, family life flows more smoothly and a child’s self-esteem, motivation, and maturity are positively influenced. Here are simple but effective ways to minimize the conflicts and maximize the love.
  1. Accept the fact that all families experience conflict.
  2. Avoid never, ever, and always.
  3. Separate the behavior from the person.
  4. Have rules that are age-appropriate, and be flexible about rulemaking.
  5. Brainstorm together for solutions.
  6. Give positive feedback.

Parents, if you have not already done so, please be sure that you are signed up for our text alert system. It only takes a moment! Box Tops for Education
We participate in box tops for education, so clip those box tops and bring them in to the office! They are on many products everyone uses, so keep your eyes open for them.
Tuition Payments
Remember that the tuition is due by the 20th of each month and is considered late after that date. If your payment is not received on time, your account will be delinquent and your child is subject to suspension. If you have any questions, you may contact Arden Hagele at 813-310-3839 or at treasurer.laa@gmail.com. You can also pay online by going to the school website here and clicking on Payments.

If you shop regularly at Kroger, please take a moment to sign up for their community rewards program. It does not cost you anything, and Kroger will donate to our school based on the amount of sales we have from families that are signed up. This past quarter we had 31 families participating and earned $175! It only takes a minute to help us raise funds for the school without costing yourself a dime! You can register your Kroger shoppers card online today at krogercommunityrewards.com. Simply search by name to add LAA as your preferred charity.
