Principal MatthewsPrincipal's Message

Hey, did you know that sugar-coated preaching can lead to truth decay? I hope I have your attention! I trust you all survived a very busy October and we are looking forward to a more tranquil November. A reminder that students need to be on their game concerning their studies. We have found that kids let down this time of year, so please continue to stay on them to get their tests and quizzes studied for. Our volleyball and basketball season are underway. Be aware that games will be happening straight through to Christmas, with the Andrews basketball trip coming up in early February. Report cards are being mailed out this coming week. If you do not receive one, you may have a tuition account that is not current. We will also be sending out the IOWA standardized testing results (grades 3-11) so parents can get a snapshot of where their student places in regards to their grade-level. Looking forward to seeing you at the bonfire Saturday night beginning at 5:30 as well as our annual Thanksgiving luncheon on November 20th. Have a blessed weekend!

S. A. Bonfire
We hope to see everyone tomorrow evening for the  5th annual LAA Student Association bonfire at 5:30 pm on the LAA athletic field. This event brings together our school family with our community to worship, fellowship, and eat good food. Big Franks, s'mores and hot drinks will be provided. Everyone should bring both a dish to share (so we have plenty of food for our growing attendance) AND a lawn chair. There will be a sundown worship thought by Jon, our SA Pastor. Everyone is welcome!
Thanksgiving Luncheon - Forms & Money Due Monday!
One of our annual LAA family traditions is our Thanksgiving Luncheon. All parents, supporters, and alumni are invited to join us for this special meal at 11:30 am on Tuesday, Nov. 20. The students may leave for Thanksgiving break after the meal and cleanup (around 1:00). Instead of the students bringing food as we have done in the past, we ask all students (and everyone who plans to eat lunch with us) to pay $5 to cover our food expenses. Signup forms were sent home with the last Eagle Eye and those forms are due back with the appropriate monies by Monday, November 12, so that we can accurately plan our meal. If you have misplaced yours, drop by the office or click here to print another. Thank you!
S.A. M&M Fundraiser
Student Association is currently running an M&M fundraiser. Each student was given an M&M bottle and asked to bring it back full of quarters. Extra bottles are available upon request. The classroom with the most filled bottles wins a Krispy Kreme party. Tubes are due November 19 and the winners will be announced at the Thanksgiving luncheon.
S. A. Overcome T-shirts
Each year, Student Association designs unique t-shirts promoting the year’s theme. This year, the theme is “Overcome” and the tshirts have just arrived! If you have already ordered one or would like to purchase one ($12), stop by Mrs. Ruckle’s classroom. The S.A. shirts may be worn every Tuesday instead of the LAA uniform shirt but must be worn with uniform pants. Supplies are limited!

Health Nugget - Health Hack for your Feet
“We often overwork and abuse our feet by stuffing them into shoes and standing for extended periods of time. Feet need exercise and fresh air too! Strengthen your foot muscles and increase flexibility with calf raises: Stand with your bare feet flat on the floor, shoulder-width apart; slowly rise up and down onto your flexed toes, supporting your body weight (you may need to stand near a wall for support); repeat five times. You can also enhance foot flexibility by holding your leg out in front of you while moving your foot to mimic writing the letters of the alphabet, or try picking up a towel or a pencil with your toes."
Your Box Tops for Education may be Expiring Soon!!
Some Box Tops for Education will expire in November of 2018. If you have any sitting around in your home, bring them in asap so we don’t lose this valuable resource!
Tuition Payments
Remember that the tuition is due by the 20th of each month and is considered late after that date. If your payment is not received on time, your account will be delinquent and your child is subject to suspension. If you shop regularly at Kroger, please take a moment to sign up for their community rewards program. It does not cost you anything, and Kroger will donate to our school based on the amount of sales we have from families that are signed up. This past quarter we had 31 families participating and earned $175! It only takes a minute to help us raise funds for the school without costing yourself a dime! You can register your Kroger shoppers card online today at Simply search by name to add LAA as your preferred charity.
