Principal MatthewsPrincipal's Message

When is a door not a door? When it’s “ajar”! We are into our third week of school and it seems like most of the students are settled in. Unfortunately, we are still having parents show up late. Remember, school starts at 8:00! Our enrollment has reached 90 and we still have students who may yet be joining us. Thanks for placing your son or daughter in the care of our staff here. Don’t forget to come visit with your student’s teachers during our Open House next Thursday, Sept. 5, from 3:30-7:00. We are so excited to greet and talk with you! It is a great opportunity to get to know the teachers and our school environment better. Goodies and Grands is coming soon, so be sure to invite your favorite grandparents (even “adopted” ones) to join us for the morning. Our Student Association is getting active starting with our Icebreaker activity today and then Spirit Week is coming up soon. Watch for more details on that! Hope you have a great Labor Day weekend. Be safe, and remember that only you can prevent forest fires!

LAA Open House
Open house is this coming Thursday, September 5, from 3:30 to 7:00 pm. Our open house includes teachers explaining what is required of the students this year and, of course, an opportunity for you to meet your student’s teacher(s) personally. Students will be displaying their work and there will be a few surprises along the way. We are excited about meeting each and every one of you! Come chat with your student’s teacher regarding any questions you may have about homework, tests/quizzes, projects, etc. Light refreshments will be served.

On Monday, September 9, from 8-9 am we will be having a special event, "Goodies & Grands" Day at LAA. All grandparents (or “adopted” grandparents) are invited to join us for some refreshments, fun activities, and the opportunity to get in the classroom with their favorite students. Please invite any grandparents (or close friends that are grandparents) to join us that morning!
Birthday Celebration Ingredients
If your student is celebrating a birthday by bringing treats into their classroom, we ask that parents make a copy of the ingredients list and turn in to the office to keep on file in case of an allergic response. Thank you for your cooperation!
Volleyball and Basketball Start Soon
Sports tryouts will be happening the week of September 9-13 for both volleyball (ladies) and basketball (gentlemen) for students in grades 7-12. Printed letters were sent home today with the full details regarding fees and uniforms, or you can click here to see it as well.
Please be sure that your student’s immunizations are current and that the office has the most recent records. We will be going through each file shortly to be sure there are no expired vaccinations. Thank you in advance for helping us out!

Help your student show their school spirit during the week of September 9-13 by planning their attire for the following daily themes:
Manic Monday:
Dress in your craziest attire.
Time travel Tuesday:
Travel back in time and dress up like a decade of your choice before the 2000’s.
We love America Wednesday:
Show your patriotism by dressing in red, white and blue.
This is how I woke up Thursday:
Come to school in your PJ’s and bring your favorite stuffed animal.
Phantom Friday:
Be the phantom of spirit week present and wear all black.
