Louisville Adventist Academy's Bi-weekly Newsletter
February 1, 2019
Hello, <<First Name>>.

We are getting ready to start the re-enrollment process and you will want to be sure you know the details for that as well as other events coming up. Thank you for continuing to stay informed about the happenings at your school.
"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
-Romans 8:38,39

Principal MatthewsPrincipal's Message

Hope the kiddie-cats enjoyed their day off on Wednesday! It looks like we can look forward to a patch of warmer weather for the beginning of February. Just to detail a few reminders, make sure the kids dress warmly but also that they bring their coats home every day. We are gathering quite a stack of lost and found coats. A preamble of coming days in February, our winter sports day is set for February 8, a week from today. All permission slips and money are due today! Remember that S.A. is showing Christopher Robin and having snack shop foods for sale on Saturday, Feb. 9. The Junior/Senior benefit will be Feb. 17 at 5:30. Be sure to set that date aside on your calendar for a great dinner theater experience.
Parents, this time of year is usually hard on students because there are few breaks and students tend to get sluggish with being indoors a lot. Please support and encourage your student to keep up with their assignments and check in often about their work! Stay in contact with your student’s teacher to be sure no work is being missed. Thank you for staying involved, and I hope you have a great weekend!
David Matthews

Announcements

2019-2020 Re-Enrollment Info
Within the next several weeks, we plan to mail out all the forms required for re-enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year. As you know, several of our classrooms are nearing capacity, and we want to be sure our returning students have first priority. To ensure your student has a seat, these forms must be completed and returned by March 22 with a $150 Enrollment Fee per student. There will be a drawing for four $100 scholarships for all who have completed paperwork and fees on time.
S.A. Movie Night
S.A. will be hosting a movie night at Louisville First’s fellowship hall on Saturday, February 9, at 6:30 pm, starting with vespers and then a movie, Christopher Robin, will start around 7:00. Anyone and everyone is invited, bring your family and friends, but just not your pets. This will be a family event and a great chance to get together with our Louisville area church and school family. Bring blankets and pillows or even come in your PJ’s if the Spirit so moves you!

Concessions will be at the courtesy of Ms. Patti Higgs and the Snack Shop crew, who will be bringing the famous snack shop menu to you for one night only. So, for those of you who love the corndogs and other delicious food or have not had the pleasure of eating it before, this is your day!

Please note that there will be a $2 admission fee for each person.
Ice Skating/Skiing – Permission Slips Due Today!
Next Friday, February 8, we will be having our annual Winter Sports Day all-school field trips. Those going skiing will leave the school around 8:30 am and return by 4. All remaining students who are not skiing will leave the school around 11:30 after an early lunch and return around 3:00. If you choose, you may pick up your student at the ice skating rink between 2:45 and 3:00 instead of at the school. Permission slips and fees are due today!
Jr./Sr. Benefit Details
Our annual Jr./Sr. Benefit is coming up on Sunday, February 17 at 5:30 pm at the Pewee Valley SDA church gymnasium, 103 La Grange Road. This year, the students will be putting on the play “Papa Was a Preacher”. A delicious dinner will also be served, and childcare is included in the ticket price. Tickets are available now from Mr. or Mrs. Ruckle or any of the senior class members for $15. We hope you will plan to join us for this evening of fun!
Health Nugget - Breakfast Basics (Pt. 1)
“You probably heard it from your own parents: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But now you're the one saying it — to your sleepy, frazzled, grumpy kids, who insist "I'm not hungry" as you try to get everyone fed and moving in the morning.

Even if you eat a healthy morning meal every day, it can be tough to get kids fueled up in time for school, childcare, or a day of play. But it's important to try. Here's how to make breakfast more appealing for everyone.

Breakfast is a great way to give the body the refueling it needs. Kids who eat breakfast tend to eat healthier overall and are more likely to participate in physical activities — two great ways to help maintain a healthy weight.

Skipping breakfast can make kids feel tired, restless, or irritable. In the morning, their bodies need to refuel for the day ahead after going without food for 8 to 12 hours during sleep. Their mood and energy can drop by midmorning if they don't eat at least a small morning meal.

Breakfast also can help keep kids' weight in check. Breakfast kick-starts the body's metabolism, the process by which the body converts the fuel in food to energy. And when the metabolism gets moving, the body starts burning calories.

Also, people who don't eat breakfast often consume more calories throughout the day and are more likely to be overweight. That's because someone who skips breakfast is likely to get famished before lunchtime and snack on high-calorie foods or overeat at lunch.””
