Spring Concert: 6/9/19 3PM @ Cotting School Auditorium

On Stage: Music Makes Me Happy Chorus

Since our last fall update, the Music Makes Me Happy Chorus has given 3 performances for people of all ages and abilities.

  •  Caroling Night at Northeastern Correctional Center in Concord on Dec. 7, 2018
As part of our "Traveling Smiles" program, we had a very special
opportunity to perform our "peace songs" as part of the annual Holiday event for a group of very appreciative men at this Massachusetts minimum security prison, along with friends and townspeople from the surrounding towns. The audience was very appreciative. This incredibly uplifting participatory service was followed by fellowship, hot chocolate, and lots of smiles.

    • The Holiday Sing-With-Us Concert on December 18th was festive and fabulous.
This "Singing for Peace" concert featured in-house solos by Will, Peter G,
Lizzy, Jeremy, Mary, David, Corinne, Allison, and Kathryn.  Special thanks to Anastasia and Charlie for this wonderful video of our concert!

  • Waltham Senior Crossing on Jan. 21, 2019
We did our fourth annual “MLK Day Tour” as part of Lexington’s MLK Day of Service. Unfortunately, due to winter weather, our first performance of the afternoon scheduled at the Lexington Montessori School was canceled, but as always, the show must go on! Thanks to ALL you parents, family members, and staff who worked hard to get the singers there in the snow, ice, and COLD, we were able to do our performance at Waltham Crossing Senior Living as planned. We sang for an enthusiastic group of seniors and their families who had just completed an intergenerational service project.

The joy that is spread at these concerts is experienced by both the audience as they sing along with us, and the chorus members. One of our volunteer members of the chorus, Allison, reflected after our MLK Day concert:

"Last year my Grandma came to our Waltham Senior Crossing Concert - I remember her joining in singing along to songs like, 'If I had a Hammer', and 'This Land is Your Land'. This year, I was happy to have my Mom there, and was especially excited to get everyone involved in stirring our 'peace soup'! The best part is getting to see children, parents, and grandparents all involved  - and happy because they get to participate too!"

Welcome To Our Newest Members

Davis, Deana, & Chris!
Davis Raymond is a proud Cotting School graduate of the class of 2018.  Davis has a wide variety of interests.  He plays basketball, soccer, baseball, and runs track.  He loves to sing and be on stage.  He is very enthusiastic and never misses a party!  His motto is Never Give Up…. even if the Red Sox are down 5 runs in the ninth inning!!
Davis' performing experiences include a Cotting School production of Twelve Angry Pigs, playing the Big Bad Wolf and vocal solos, including Happy, I am Strong, and I Dream a Dream.  He joined the Music Makes Me Happy Chorus on November 20th and worked so hard learning the songs that he was able to sing in our holiday concert on December 18th!  We appreciate Davis' enthusiasm, hard work, and wonderful smile.  We are really happy to have him in our chorus "family"!
Deana Speakman is our newest volunteer and is an adult companion to a long time Chorus Member, Blythe. After spending the past five years in New York, Deana was looking to move back  to Massachusetts to get her family back in one place - she found Blythe's job posting for an adult companion and a week later she was hired, moved in, and volunteering with our chorus! Deana has three wonderful children, Anaka (17), Priya (15), and James (10). She has her masters certification in elementary education, though has primarily spent her time working in a variety of roles in the human service field.

Deana loves to sing, and has been a wonderful addition to our group! When asked about her friend experience with our chorus, she said,
"I just loved it. I loved how happy everyone was! Everyone was so welcoming and their energy was contagious. I remember Marsha saying that music was healing. I also loved the concert program topic of rainbows. It makes me happy to sing. I feel blessed to be a part of the Music Makes Me Happy Chorus Family!"
Chris DeLise is not new to the MMMH Chorus; he has been our sound and
lighting technician since the beginning of our chorus. What is new, is Chris taking on the role as our Pianist! While Kathryn spends time nurturing her growing family, we could not be happier with how Chris has stepped up to the plate! Chris has been joining our group onstage for weekly rehearsals and will be performing with us at the Spring concert. His natural ability to "go with the flow" and follow Marsha's cues really helped make it a seamless transition. Everyone loves Chris' calm, positive energy and he fits right in with our chorus "family".

Chris has played Piano since age 6... and has enjoyed classical and Jazz piano ever since! He lives in Boxboro and works there as a freelance engineer. We could not be happier with Chris - he is an amazing guy!

Save the Date: Spring Concert

"Follow the Rainbow"

Come join the MUSIC MAKES ME HAPPY Chorus for an afternoon of songs about rainbows and the colors in a rainbow.  There will be such favorites as “Over the Rainbow”, “The Rainbow Connection”, “Look to the Rainbow”, and others.  In addition to the chorus, there will be guest instrumentalists: a jazz quintet playing pieces like “Blue Moon” and “Mood Indigo”, and a champion fiddler playing that great fiddle showpiece “Orange Blossom Special”.  As with all of our concerts, audience members are given the opportunity to sing along.

The concert begins at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, June 9, 2019 in the Cotting School Auditorium at 453 Concord Avenue, Lexington.  Following the concert is a reception and time to visit with the performers

Sunday, June 9, 3 pm at the Cotting School -- See you there!
