Holiday Concert Save-the-Date

Music Makes Me Happy Chorus Updates

  • Our summer highlights included singing “God Bless America” during the 7th Inning Stretch at a Lowell Spinners baseball game in June, and a fun “Summer Sing” get-together in August.
  • Since we kicked off our regular rehearsal schedule on September 5th, we’ve been enjoying reviving “happy” songs from our 2015 spring concert, to take on the road to some upcoming performances (more about that below).

  • Our director Marsha had a hip replacement surgery in September. We all missed her terribly for a few weeks while she was recovering, but we are so happy that she is on the mend and back with us!

  • Last Friday was a fantastic little fundraiser at local ice cream shop Reasons to be Cheerful in West Concord. We sported our blue and yellow chorus T-shirts, sang our hearts out, enjoyed seeing some of our local supporters, and ate delicious ice cream!

  • Can you believe holidays are just around the corner? You better believe we’ve already started practicing our holiday songs, including a set of Christmas songs about “bells” (How many Christmas songs can you think of that include bells?!).

Introducing Traveling Smiles

Music Makes Me Happy Chorus has received a generous $2500 grant from the Loretto Community, to fund a new outreach program. Thanks to their generosity, we have been empowered and inspired to seek out opportunities to spread happiness to some groups of people who need it the most. With this in mind, we’d like to introduce the outreach arm of the Music Makes Me Happy Chorus:

Traveling Smiles.

We plan to visit places like hospitals, shelters, and senior centers where many are in low circumstances and could really benefit from a visit from our chorus. We feel that the messages we share through song, combined with the sincerity, kindness, and enthusiasm of our singers have a truly transformative, healing power.

We saw this in action last fall when we performed at Massachusetts General Hospital during their “Spiritual Care Week.” The energy and joy in the room was palpable, as patients and hospital staff joined in singing with the Music Makes Me Happy Chorus.

We are excited to create similarly positive experiences at two upcoming performances:

Spaulding Rehabilitation Center (October 29, 2017)

Shriners Hospital for Children (November 8, 2017)

...and many more in the future! If you know of an appropriate place in the greater Boston area that would appreciate a “Traveling Smiles” performance from the Music Makes Me Happy Chorus, please contact Marsha Martin (marsha@mmmh-singers.org).

Holiday Save the Date:

Our annual Holiday Sing-With-Us Concert will be on

Tuesday, December 19

at the Cotting School Auditorium. Save the date, and come join us for a merry evening of singing and refreshments!

Farewell and thanks to our high school volunteer Devesh for his time singing with us! He's moving on to different Tuesday-night activities this year, but is still our dear friend.
Hope you are having a wonderful Fall! Thanks for reading, and supporting the Music Makes Me Happy Chorus!
