Holiday Concert

On Tuesday, December 15th, we gave our first public performance as a chorus: a Sing-With-Us Holiday Concert at the Cotting School Auditorium. Chorus members looked sharp and sounded beautiful, while audience members listened, supported, and enthusiastically sang along to both Christmas and Hanukkah songs. The chorus sang with angelic halos, soft candlelight, and unmatched vibrancy. As we enjoyed a delicious reception after the concert, all in attendance continued to feel the joyful spirit of the holidays. We especially loved this feedback from a friend in attendance:

"A magical musical evening abounding in angels and light.
So happy I was able to be there."

Lexington MLK Day of Service Performance

We were honored to be invited as guest performers for the city of Lexington's 3rd annual MLK Day of Service. As families gathered at the Lexington Montessori School to make beautiful cards for veterans and hospital patients, the Music Makes Me Happy Chorus delighted their ears with songs about inclusion, freedom, and peace. From our renditions of "This Land is Your Land" to "Oh, Freedom", we saw people tapping their feet and singing along, and received enthusiastic reviews from the event coordinators and volunteers. We were delighted to add our gifts to the wonderful and meaningful Day of Service. Thanks to our devoted volunteer Dora for facilitating this opportunity!

Bring-A-Friend Night: Tuesday, February 16th

As we plan to celebrate friendship and love at our Valentine's Party, we have invited our chorus members to bring a friend - specifically someone who might be interested in joining our chorus - to join us for specially themed songs, games, and refreshments. We love our current chorus members a lot, but we've got room in our hearts to love even more of them! If you know someone in the Boston/Lexington/Metro-West, MA area who you think would enjoy singing with us, please contact Marsha about arranging a visit!

SINGER SPOTLIGHT

It's a special month for Jacob Mitchell Myers, whose 19th birthday he was thrilled to celebrate at our recent MLK Day Performance.

Jacob’s parents are Adam and Karen, and his younger brother Zachary is also a member of the MMMH Chorus.  The other member of their family is an eight year old white golden retriever named “Fenway”, who has been known to sing.

Jacob is a very busy and well-rounded young man.  Two days a week he attends the LABBB School Transition Program in Belmont.  Two days a week he works full days in the Lahey Medical Records Department with only a break for lunch.  He works very hard but says of his job, “I love it -- it’s the best job I’ve ever had!” The other day of the work week he works at Sebastians Catering in Burlington where he does baking, packing, recycling.  In addition to all of that, he volunteers at Cradles to Crayons sorting clothes for children who need them.  He is also part of a Boston University study group that meets on Sundays twice a month to develop a medical questionnaire that will be used by doctors’ offices.  Last summer Jacob spent a month in Israel as part of the Yad B’Yad program, and he is looking forward to returning again this summer.

Extracurricular activities include sports and the arts:  he is on the LABB basketball team; he is on the Youth Leader Council for the Unified Theatre (an inclusive teen drama program); and he is an important founding member of our MUSIC MAKES ME HAPPY Chorus where his enthusiasm and friendliness shine.

Jacob had this to say about the MMMH Chorus:  “The chorus lets me be myself and inspires my music.  I love to sing!”  He also said, “My goal is to make friends.”  And he certainly has – we all love him!
Thank you very much for all your support!
We wish you a musical, successful, and HAPPY 2016.

Sincerely,
Marsha Martin (Director) and Kathryn Lieppman (Pianist and Assistant Director)
