On Stage: Music Makes Me Happy Chorus

Since our last update, the Music Makes Me Happy Chorus has given 4 performances, for approximately 200 people total!

  • The Holiday Sing-With-Us Concert on December 19th was festive and fabulous. This "Jingle Jingle Jingle" concert featured bell songs of all types, including guest handbell players.

  • We did our second annual “MLK Day Tour” as part of Lexington’s MLK Day of Service - two consecutive performances: first the card-making event at Lexington Montessori School, and second at Waltham Crossing Senior Living for a group of seniors and families who had just completed an intergenerational service project.

  • Finally, we spent the afternoon of Valentine’s Day at the Brockton VA Hospital, singing “happy songs” for a group of very appreciative veterans, as part of our “Traveling Smiles” program.

The joy that is spread at these concerts is experienced by both the audience as they sing along with us, and the chorus members. Our lovely chorus member Mary reflected after the MLK Day concerts:

Dear  Marsha,

I had a  stupendous  time singing  at the two

Places  that we  went it was  nice to sing

With  Mmmh singers  I want to thank you for

Giving  us the opportunity   to make people feel good about themselves.

Thank you Mary for capturing the essence of Music Makes Me Happy Chorus! We are looking forward to a “Traveling Smiles” performance at Boston Children’s Hospital on April 30th.

We are thrilled to have welcomed 3 new singers to our chorus recently: singers Peter Garron (top row 2nd from the left) and Lizzy Haynes (top row 3rd from the left), and volunteer member Allison Baker Urban (top row 2nd from the right). All three are incredible individuals who are kind-hearted, interesting to talk with, and great singers!

Singer Spotlight: Jeremy Slover
Jeremy Stephen Slover has been in the MUSIC MAKES ME HAPPY Chorus since its founding.  Jeremy was born April 17, 1968; his fiftieth birthday is fast approaching.  Jeremy’s parents are Loretta and George.  His younger brother John, recently married, is a wine connoisseur, a “sommelier”.  They all live in New York City.  Jeremy lives in a group home in Lexington.

Jeremy grew up in Brookline, MA.  He spent his freshman year at Brookline High School and then transferred to a small private school, the Palfrey Street School in Watertown, where classes were smaller and there was more individual attention to students.  Jeremy took private clarinet lessons from Jeff Goss, and as a freshman in high school was selected as a member of the clarinet section of the Senior Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble of the New England Conservatory.

In addition to singing and playing the clarinet, Jeremy is also a comic book enthusiast.  He has collected all 300 issues of “Cerebus the Aardvark” which was published 1977-2004.  He also likes “Ronan” created by Frank Miller.

When asked what he likes about our chorus, he said:  “I like the people who sing with me; HAPPY [our mascot, a small yellow stuffed smiley face that laughs]; Kathryn, a gifted pianist; and singing for people – the concert at the nursing home was really good.”

Jeremy is a real gentleman who is friendly, polite, and always eager to help people.  He sings well and sometimes during Sharing time offers to sing a solo for everyone.  He has also played his clarinet for us.  We all love him and are so happy that he is in the MUSIC MAKES ME HAPPY Chorus!
