Who Are You Listening To?

There are many opinions about what churches should do at this time.  Comply with government stipulations?  Ignore the government? Go back to the old days of 2 months ago despite any health consequences?

When Peter and the apostles were instructed by the religious authorities in Jerusalem to stop preaching about Jesus he replied, “We must obey God rather than men.” (Acts 5:29)  Yet, when Paul was writing to the Christians in Rome he wrote: “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established.” (Romans 13:1) So who is right? Peter or Paul?  Hint: Trick question!

Our government has not forbidden the preaching of the Gospel, just the gathering of people in larger groups.  Thanks be to God that we have the technology to preach the Gospel today not just in our church, but to our community on the radio and to the whole world through the internet.  We balance obedience to the 3rd Commandment “Worship God” with obedience to the 4th “Respect Authority” and the 5th “Protect Human Life.”

Who do we listen to? All of God’s Word! And we pray for the Holy Spirit to give us wisdom and guidance as we apply all of His Word to our decision making as a church.  Thank you for being patient as we seek to continue to effectively share the Gospel of the resurrection of Jesus Christ with our world during these challenging times.

GOD’S PRORITY # 1

Each day is filed with a multitude of choices. It is all-too-easy to get distracted from God.

We face a daily choice—where do we place God in our P-H-D (Piled Higher & Deeper life? The good news is God shares His expectation for us—

            “Blessed is the man
who does not sit in the counsel of the wicked

or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.” (Psalm 1:1-2)

God and His Word are to be our daily direction. We are to be “set apart” (a definition for “holy”) from worldly distraction… and detractors.

God also gives us a model of this priority. It was Mary, the sister of Martha—who sat at Jesus’ feet listening to His teaching (Luke 10:39). Jesus emphasized that she had chosen the ““one thing needed””…““what is better”” (vs.42).

Find a “devotion space” where you dedicate daily time to God and His Word. Be a Mary and be blessed by God!

Mission + Antigo 2020

During this time of uncertainty and everchanging orders, rules, and concerns, we look to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, our God, who is the one constant that will never change. With that said and with all of the concerns of the coronavirus pandemic, we are still planning on doing Mission + Antigo this year! It is going to look quite a bit different, but we WILL be doing Mission + Antigo this year. We will be doing the projects the normal time of Mission Antigo, this year June 13-19.

We are not going to be doing as big of projects this year, but we will have a variety of different jobs that we will be able to do, such as: landscaping/beautification projects, debris removal, gutter cleaning, and painting.

One of the exciting ways that we are going to be helping out our community, is a flowerpot giveaway on June 13th. The time on that is still to be determined. We will be stationed here at Peace, and we will be handing out flowers and may even pot them for you!

If you have any of these projects that you would like us to help you out with, please email me at vicar@peaceantigo.org, or give me a phone call at 989-598-0679, and I can get that set up!

If you are interested in helping out with Mission Antigo this year, you can register at this link:

One last item of how you can help out; if you are a Thrivent member, and would be willing to help us out with using a Thrivent action team, that would be wonderful! If you have any questions about that, again contact me at vicar@peaceantigo.org, or give me a phone call at 989-598-0679.

I pray that God would continue to bless all of us throughout this pandemic, and Mission + Antigo is just one way that we can show our community the love and light of Christ amidst the darkness of the pandemic.
