As we all know, much of our state is in the middle of the worst drought in recorded history… And although we have seen much on TV and been told about this at length… As our urban gardens now have some green in them, and summer storms are visiting with regularity, it is hard to stay connected with the reality of the ongoing Outback situation right now…
But behind this barren and scorched earth, are Aussie children and families. Families that Outback Futures is working with every day. Families who love where they live and what they do, who form the backbone of our country, and support our economy at so many levels.

An investment into mental health and well-being not only changes the trajectory for an individual, but allows them to invest back into their communities – offering far reaching and long term change. Extreme stress, fractured relationships and the lack of capacity to prioritise educational outcomes and learning issues are some of the often the forgotten aspects of the drought.

PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR OUTBACK FAMILY this Christmas and give a gift that makes a difference. Lets move away from commercialism and embrace the power of giving a gift that can change lives! Check out our gift catalogue at:

In the middle of a drought, with margins pushed to the edge, an opportunity to connect with mates and colleagues, be informed and resourced to manage such a tough season, and hosted by friends… Is a recipe for recharge!

Outback Futures was privileged to be part of this day, delivering a presentation about the importance of not always prioritising livestock well-being over self and family well-being! So often in a  time of drought, energy and sacrifice gets thrown behind making the land and stock go the distance, with little focus on how well the people are going the distance.

This was a day, hosted by the generous Kristy and Alex Sparrow of Malden Station, and involving so many agencies and support organisations from Barcy Regional Council and AGForce through to the CWA, Lions and so many more. It was a great day…. Watch the video below to see more.

Working in the Outback brings daily introductions to and connections with remarkable Aussies… Aussies who are so often hidden away in remote locations, and are daily demonstrating creativity and talent that does not get the exposure it deserves. One of those connections took place for me on the recent Alpha Recharge Day, when I was introduced to the young man behind “Dusty Sky Drones”. Living and working on his parents Cattle property in the Remote Central West and bringing it to life in remarkable ways, Tom Sparrow’s talent with the Drone is amazing, and with it he gives us a unique glimpse into the rugged beauty and inspiring lifestyle of our primary producers in the heat and dust.

Tom describes himself “someone who lives on a cattle property in Central West Qld and flies drones to capture the landscape of the Australian Outback”.
Thanks Tom! Thanks for sharing your life and talent with us. Giving us ‘city slickers’ a special insight into the world of our Outback Family. Check him out on Instagram and Facebook today!
