Find out about some of the many opportunities below.
Be a superhero this summer.

In three easy steps you can help the LJS Drop-in For Asylum Seeker Families and be a superhero this summer.

1) You shop (The LJS need shirts, trousers & other basics for ages 3-18), or donate funds (& The LJS will shop).

2) Bring your item(s) or a cheque payable to the LJS (write 'drop-in uniforms' on the back).

3) Give an asylum seeker's child the chance to start school fully equipped & brimming with confidence.

Your donation could make a huge difference to a family in need. Email for more information about the items and sizes needed.

The LJS Drop-in now has an Amazon Wishlist which lists items that guests specifically need. A working link can be viewed here. Items can be purchased and sent directly to the LJS.

Chief Rabbi visits refugees

To mark Refugee Week (19-25 June), Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis visited one of World Jewish Relief’s projects supporting refugees in Yorkshire. The programme offers one-to-one support for Syrian refugees to overcome barriers to employment and prepare them for the UK job market.

World Jewish Relief, aims to assist 1,000 newly-arrived Syrian refugees to become ‘job ready’ and find suitable employment as a step towards long-term integration. To date, 51 refugees have taken part in the scheme which launched last year. Of those 22 have been deemed ‘job ready’ and 11 have found employment in fields such as civil engineering, dentistry and retail.

Nappies and sanitary products wanted

JCORE and JW3 are still collecting nappies and sanitary products to send to refugees in Greece and asylum seekers in the UK. Thanks to your generous donations, over 1,000 nappies and 300 sanitary towels have been collected already.

However we need more.

Nappies can help the mum of 4 worried because her oldest has started bed wetting again, and she’s coping alone because her husband is in Germany. Sanitary products can help the teenage girl going through the agony and worry of her first period. And the first time mum with a colicky baby and after birth bleeding.

Donate nappies via JCORE by contacting Adam, via JW3 by depositing your nappies in the collection box, and via Belsize Park community library on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 10-6.
Volunteers wanted

On a single Sunday afternoon each month, West London Synagogue welcomes families who have been made destitute while seeking asylum in the UK. They provide a hot meal, grocery vouchers, clothing, companionship and advice for parents and children who have fled life-threatening violence or persecution in the countries they are from.

West London Synagogue are seeking volunteers to help with their monthly asylum seeker drop-in centre. If you have experience working with children and would like to volunteer your time, contact Nic.
