LIBRARY BOARD MEMBER FRANCINE DAGUE RECEIVES "CITIZEN OF THE YEAR" AWARD
On April 28th, Francine Dague was presented the "Citizen of the Year" Award by the Downingtown-Thorndale Regional Chamber of Commerce.  Since joining the Downingtown Library Board in 2012, Francine has worked tirelessly on behalf of the library...raising funds, building awareness, and advocating for the Library.  Francine helped to create inaugural events including Readers on the Run 5K and Links for the Library.  A third new event, Library Love, will be held at Downingtown Country Club on Sept. 29th.  It will include a live auction hosted by Mr. Downingtown.
THANK YOU Francine for everything you do for the Library!
WELCOME NEW BOARD MEMBERS JOSH WAGNER & DEBBIE SHUPP!
The Downingtown Library is pleased to welcome two new members to the Library Board.  Debbie Shupp comes to the Board with extensive experience in non-profit organization leadership specializing in donor identification and cultivation.  She also has worked for many years with planning and executing development plans, volunteer recruitment, and marketing.  Josh Wagner, who has lived in and around Downingtown for over 30 years, owns and operates Solomon Caw Marketing.  In addition to marketing, the company that Josh created with a partner does fundraiser event planning and specializes in community investment marketing.  Josh also has published several books and loves working with teen and young adult readers.  Debbie and Josh bring tremendous experience, knowledge and enthusiasm to the Board and to the Downingtown Library!

FRIENDS OF THE DOWNINGTOWN LIBRARY NEWS
Thanks for the record setting Friends Spring Book Sale—we raised nearly $6000 to help support the library’s daily operations and materials purchases.  Mark your calendars for the Fall Book Sale, which will kick off on Oct. 14 &15.  We are NOT accepting book donations at this time, but we will welcome donations of gently used adult & childrens  books (no textbooks) beginning Tuesday, Sept. 6th.
The Friends of the Downingtown Library are selling tote bags with the new library logo for only $15.  These sturdy canvas duck bags have reinforced handles and a handy inside pocket for storing your library card.  Stop in to get one before they sell out!  All proceeds support the library.

Staples has announced that the Downingtown Library Company has been approved for funding from Staples Foundation in the amount of $500.00 in support of our education and  job skills programs.  Staples relayed: "Your commitment to improving the local community aligns with Staples’ goal of enriching the areas where our associates and customers live and work.  This funding is being provided to you as part of 2 Million & Change, a program supported by Staples Foundation that is designed to give $2 million per year to non-profit organizations that support the Foundation’s mission and are nominated by Staples associates. We believe that the best way to give back to our local communities is to give our associates a voice and let them choose."
