An introduction from Mrs. Hess~
Hello, everyone! I’m so happy to have the chance to introduce myself as your new Director of the Downingtown Library. I was born and raised in the Borough of Downingtown, and spent many happy afternoons growing up at the Downingtown Library- kicking off a lifelong love affair with libraries of all kinds. A little about me: I'm a big reader, watcher, and listener of all types of books, movies, and music- but I especially love memoirs, documentary movies, and just about any 80s music. I’m currently reading The Stranger in the Woods : The Extraordinary Story of the Last True Hermit by Michael Finkel- which I’d highly recommend!
The Downingtown Library has long held a special place in my heart. As a product of Downingtown’s investment in its citizens- from the great education offered by our public schools, to the warm community that supported me, to the Downingtown Library itself- which educated, entertained, and welcomed me from my earliest days- my hope is to return on that investment by serving you and our community as a collaborative and responsive library director. I am so looking forward to contributing to the incredible work of the Board of Directors and staff of the Downingtown Library, and continuing to find even more ways to serve you through programs, collections, and services in the future.
I have been blown away by the kindness, warmth, and welcoming nature of everyone I’ve had the privilege to meet so far- from the Board of Directors, to the Friends of the Downingtown Library, to my co-workers, and all of you, our treasured community members and patrons. To be chosen to follow in the footsteps of beloved previous director, Karen Miller, is an incredible honor. Thank you to all of those who have already welcomed me so kindly, and I hope to meet as many of you as possible in the coming months- please stop in to say hello!
