Important Weather Info

Today's weather forecast calls for highs in the upper 90s, and including the humidity that means a heat index of likely near 100. As a reminder, here are our weather policies regarding training. Following these policies, today's run/walk distance will be cut in half. Please make sure to watch your email and social media to see if we have to officially cancel (if the heat index breaks 100).
Our friends over at abc12 will continue to have weekly weather updates on Tuesdays from 4-5pm. Make sure you tune in to get the latest forecast and make sure you're prepared to train!

Atwood Races are Back!


After a 2 year break, the Kettering University Atwood Stadium Races are back! This year's race will take place on Saturday, July 30 at Kettering University's historic Atwood Stadium. Racers can sign up for the 5K, 10K, or signature Duo Challenge. This voucher race is the perfect fitness test just about a month out from your Crim race. Use one of your vouchers for a single event, or both your vouchers for the Duo! You can click the button below to download the paper application. Completed apps can be turned in to the Crim office.

This summer Ascension Genesys Health Club is offering 3 FREE group fitness classes, exclusively to CrimFit Training Program participants! All equipment will be provided for each class. Free Class #1: TRX on Sunday, June 26th, 11-11:45am (LIMIT 15)

The TRX System, also known as Total Resistance Exercises, is a specialized form of suspension training that uses body weight exercises to develop strength, balance, flexibility and core stability simultaneously. It requires the use of the TRX Suspension Trainer, a performance training tool that leverages gravity and the user’s body weight to complete exercises. 

This class is designed for the intermediate to advanced level participant but can be modified for beginners.

Training Tip:
Avoiding Heat Stroke


As someone who has experienced heat stroke first hand, it is something you want to avoid if at all possible. Safety is always our number one priority, and with how hot it's going to be today, we want to ensure everyone is taking the proper precautions to avoid any unnecessary risk and get a run or walk in - responsibly. With that in mind, here are some tips to help avoid heat stroke:
  • Make sure you are hydrated. We've talked about this many times, but it can't be overstated. Staying hydrated is critically important on hot and humid days. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, and keep up your hydration during your run/walk.
  • Throw pace out the door. You can compare extreme heat and humidity with training at altitude. That means it takes more energy to go your usual training pace. So don't worry about your pace on days like today, and instead focus on your effort. Take more walk breaks, don't push the pace too much, and pay attention to how you feel.
  • Add some extra nutrients to your drink. If you're losing a lot of sweat, consider adding something that will give you more. Products like Nuun, Gatorade, U Can, and Hammer include electrolytes that help replenish some much needed nutrients. The good news is that many of these products are available at Complete Runner and Bauman's!
