Issue 50

I miss seeing all your lovely faces, and the happy energy and creativity of our meetings at the Sewing Studio.  It's going to be a while until we can all be together there again, but in the meantime, exciting things are happening!

Now that we have adjusted to the technical demands of meeting virtually, the Board is working on bringing you longer, more substantive meetings, and fun new content and projects.  We won't be up to speed all at once, but we're working on it!  In the meantime, I hope you are all safe and well and are finding some time and energy to do things that brighten your day, such as sewing!

A lot of you have been making literally hundreds of masks, which is so wonderful, but remember that some "selfish sewing" is okay too--in fact, it's vital for your mental health.  We need to do what we can to stay positive during these rough times--I know I always feel better when I'm doing something involving needle and thread!  I look forward to "seeing" you at next week's meeting!
(Members, watch your email for the Zoom meeting code).

Online meeting this month -
please read below on how to

We will be conducting a virtual meeting at our regularly scheduled time:  We hope to have a fairly full meeting with programming,
Show & Tell and maybe even a few sewing room tours !

Wednesday, May 6, 2020
10:00 am
Via the Zoom Meeting application,
available online  HERE

Members will be sent the meeting code on Monday before the meeting to log in.
1. You will need to download this app on your tablet or laptop. (You can also do it on your phone, but it doesn’t work as well there.)

2. To use the app on the day of our meeting, you will click on “join”. You will then be asked to enter a personal meeting ID,  (it's called Ede's meeting room!) It is a very simple process and a user friendly app!  You do not need to check your audio for sound, as everyone will be muted except the presenters Ede, Debra ,Marge and Sue.

3. It is not necessary for you to set up an account with Zoom in order for you to participate in the meeting, but you do need to have the software installed to attend the online meeting .

4. To improve the sound quality, all participants except those on the agenda will be muted.  If you have a concern or question you’d like to hear addressed during the meeting, please email the guild.

If you can’t make the meeting, or don’t want to use the app, we plan to upload the recorded meeting to our new YouTube channel  here:

If you have questions about any of this, please email the guild at:
Hope you’ll join us for a little bit of fun and quilty friendship.  Stay safe and well!

Just a reminder: if you’re still making masks or have not found a donation charity near you, Orlando Health is still seeking homemade cotton masks and the masks can be dropped off at all of the Orlando Health hospitals (see the list of locations and drop-off locations in your recent email.)

Orlando Health Hospital system has a goal of 2 masks for each non-clinical staff person. As of this week, the system had received 4,500. Please keep track of all masks you’ve made and donated and the charities for a guild annual report.  Consider Orlando Health if you’re looking for a continued need.

There are several Central Florida organizations that are making masks, (such as Orlando Ballet ) we are listing organizations above that have specifically sent us information through the guild email address.

     IT'S A WRAP!

The number for the It's a Wrap this month is

 #2 - Ready in June

Take Two Months , Finish It Up!

It's not too late if you want to be in the group!  Email Chairman Debby Manuel at the guild, here,  She'll announce when the new number is chosen. Send a picture or two so we can post before and afters.

This is how it works :
Choose 4 projects that you really want to finish

Write each project name next to a number on your own
sign-up sheet and post it where it will remind
and motivate you.

Once we are back together in person you’ll show off your finished project and your name will go in a drawing for your IT’S A WRAP door prize.

Some easy rules :
To qualify, your projects must have been started in some ‘fibery” way: one block already made, or the fabric already cut, or the top almost finished and in need of quilting, or only adding a binding - your choice. If you don’t need two months to complete it combine 2 projects or stretch a complicated one to 4 months.

Join us by showing off your accomplishments proudly announcing: IT’S A WRAP!
