The TSSC Nordic Ski Club is holding its annual Skiathon fundraiser this Sunday January 19, at the Telluride Town Park from 10 am-1 pm.

During the Skiathon, members of the Nordic club will ski as many laps around Town Park as possible in a three-hour period, from 10 am until 1 pm.  Each skier collects sponsors to donate a certain amount of money per kilometer skied during the event.  Afterwards, skiers total their kilometers, collect their donations and give all of the proceeds back to the program.

The non-profit TSSC Nordic ski club is a partnership with the Telluride Nordic Association and is in its third year of inception. Over 35 kids in grades 3-12 are enrolled in the program this year.   Skiers practice cross-country skiing after school and compete in regional competitions as members of the Rocky Mountain Nordic race division, training and competing in both classic and skate skiing techniques.

Funds raised at the event are put toward program expenses including team uniforms and ski gear.  Skiathon money helps to ensure that the Nordic program remains affordable to all members of the Telluride community.  Parent volunteers will serve a free picnic to all skiers and their families after the event.

Members of the public are invited to attend the Skliathon, cheer on the skiers and encourage their fundraising efforts.

Walk-up donations to the program may be made at the event, or by emailing
