Urban schools are facing increasing shortages of well-prepared teachers and instructional leaders
After almost a decade of teacher layoffs and plummeting enrollment in teacher education programs, demand for well-prepared urban teachers is increasingly outpacing supply. As a result, urban schools have recently found themselves scrambling to fill vacancies, and are even more pressed to hire well-prepared, highly dedicated educators.
The Reach Institute is working to increase the number of highly effective, diverse educators in urban schools
The Reach Institute is dedicated to helping urban schools and districts hire and retain exceptional educators. Reach is working to expand recruitment and enrollment in its teacher and school leader pre-service and in-service programs with a high level of commitment to further increasing the diversity of its participants, a foundational Reach value.
This year Reach has increased enrollment in the Intern Teacher Credential Program by 25% and in the Instructional Leadership Academy by 65% percent, as well as expanded its partner school network to a total of 65 entities. Reach seeks to further its impact on the teacher and leader shortage by continuing to increase enrollment in both programs over the next 3 years.
