A Chilean-led expedition to explore the ocean trench off its coast succeeded in launching and recovering a robotic lander named “DOV Audacia” (Audacity).  Global Ocean Design built the OmegaLander, designed in collaboration with the Universidad de Concepcion, Chile and the Instituto Milenio de Oceanografía.  DOV Audacia was deployed three times to deeper than 8,000 meters, the last a record depth of 8,081 meters.  On a second cruise, it was deployed 8 times more. The Atacamex 2018 expedition represents a milestone for marine science in Chile, as researchers there pursue seminal work in deep-sea exploration and research.

The expedition made the cover of the Marine Technology Reporter, April 2018, “Lander Depth Record set for the Peru-Chile/Atacama Trench”.

New Product: MCBH Adapter for Glass Spheres

There’s no more need for expensive custom connectors with long lead times for glass spheres. With just a ½” Dia hole through the glass sphere wall, the entire catalog of 7/16-20 MCBH connectors is now available for your use. Other thread sizes are also available.

The MCBH Adapter speeds project completion and maintains compatibility with existing customer peripherals. The design has passed pressure testing to 18,000 psi (1,225 atm).

The MCBH Adapter (G-180) works by extending the threaded post of a standard connector and increasing the load-bearing footprint inside the o-ring.

To prevent galvanic corrosion the interface plate is available in materials that match the most common connector bodies, including brass (UNS C36000), 316 SS (passivated), and Titanium (Grade 5).  A variation on the design can electrically isolate a Stainless Steel or brass connector from an aluminum endcap. So unique, a patent has been applied for.
