Bring Your Own Bells
Concerts for Everyone

Chime In! Music with a Mission presents an evening of upbeat, spirited handbell music at Center Congregational Church, 155 Main Street, Torrington on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. This rousing concert is the first of the choir’s spring Bring Your Own Bells free concert series. Chime In! invites handbell ringers near and far, of all ages and stages, to “Bring Your Own Bells” and ring along. Not a ringer? Bring along a bell or chimes, or just yourself.

Chime In!’s innovative BYOB concert includes opportunities for ringers and nonringers to participate. Handbell ringers should arrive an hour early (5:30 pm) with specific bells in hand to prepare for their part in the concert. Ringers should visit www.ChimeInMusic.org for details on which bells to bring.

In its signature style, the group will also invite the audience to ask questions about the music, chime in with the bell choirs on a variety of other instruments, and after the program, meet the ringers and try out the instruments in Chime In!’s traditional “petting zoo.”

The choirs of Chime In! have been sharing their love of music with the community for more than 20 years and perform throughout the year in multiple venues – from New Haven’s International Festival of Arts and Ideas to the Bethlehem Fair to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. With approximately 30 ringers and a multitude of bells, chimes, and other instruments, the group offers a program that engages casual listeners to common bell geeks, of all ages. More details and a calendar of upcoming events are available at www.ChimeInMusic.org.

What have we been up to?

Woodbury Senior Community Center
Audience Chimes In!

Nearly 100 people joined Chime In! for an upbeat jazzy Handbell Concert in March to greet the coming of Spring. Following the concert, audience members met the ringers and our variety of instruments during the "petting zoo."

Thank you to the Woodbury Bethlehem Community Music Foundation for supporting the event.
Jen Woodward plays our new Yamaha Stage Piano to bring new dimensions to our sound with the addition of piano, organ, and synthesizer. The keyboard was funded by a grant from the Argall Hull Fund of First Church of Bethlehem and donations from the 2015 Give Local campaign.
What are we planning?
World Drumming
Coming To Bethlehem
In the Spring of 2017, Chime In! will host a day of Taiko Drumming workshops, the first in a series of workshops to engage the community in making music from around the world. Some 2016 Give Local funds will be combined with grants to host the event. Children of the surrounding communities, their parents, and community members will be invited to participate.
I've been ringing for more than 40 years and conducting for the past 30 years. The five years since we launched Chime In! Music With a Mission have been most exciting and rewarding as a director. Our mission "to engage people in the joy and sense of community that music fosters through participation and performance" has opened new horizons and given me, along with the ringers, the opportunity to be creative and innovative as we share our music making. What more could we seek?
Thank you for your continued support!
